Adam here to talk about the shiniest of the new Adepta Sororitas to hit the tabletop.

The 40K releases seem to have been coming in hot lately. Hopefully, we will be getting a small break in releases when the new edition of Age of Sigmar is let loose upon the world. In the meantime there is plenty to chew on. There has already been enough talk about the Drukhari and how they fare in the meta. In addition, we should start seeing some results of the new Adeptus Mechanicus codex as we head into a weekend with over 250+ attendees.

The most recent release, Sisters of Battle, now sees an update to a codex that was actually holding its own among all the 9th edition codexes. A number of new units and rules have made for some things that may stand out as the various brain trusts figure out what works and what doesn’t. this week we will have a look at a few units that I have my eye on and am really interested in how they shake out in the coming weeks.

Morvenn Vahl

Ever since her rules were previewed on the Warhammer Community site, she seems like a beast. Toughness 5 and 8 wounds make her relatively easy to protect. She has a 4+ invulnerable save that also give you that same save against any mortal wounds she suffers. The ability to halve damage can be clutch and her melee weapon can deal some damage up close if she needs to. Her real value is her aura and commander ability that allow units the standard reroll 1s to hit but she can also choose a unit to reroll all hits and wounds.

All this for 265 points. I find it difficult to see a top placing army without her in it and if there are armies out there placing high at grand tournaments without, I want to know what magic they are performing. I hope I am right and we see her perform how we expect in the coming weeks. I haven’t even mentioned how cool the model is on its own but this isn’t a hobby article.

Dominions

In previous editions, Dominions were a mainstay of any Sisters army. Last edition, they lost their ability for the vehicles they were in to scout forward before the game began. The new codex changes that so they could very well make a comeback into player’s armies. Now they can safely move up the board before the game starts and get in key positions or contest objectives from the get go. The versatility of the unit in what weapons they can carry allows a player to tailor the unit for almost any situation.

The addition of being able to have storm bolters that are damage 2, makes the unit even deadlier when they get in range.  Other stratagems allows you to also take advantage of those other types of builds. I mean, I wouldn’t be surprised if you see plenty of armies with 3 units of 5, all with different loadouts, inside of Rhinos charging up the field.

Paragon Warsuits

This model has probably intrigued me the most, especially at the time of the reveal we didn’t know what it does. The unit seems pretty sturdy at toughness 5 and with a 4+ invulnerable save. The -1 damage is also very useful, just ask any space marine or chaos player that uses Contemptors. While we are on the subject, I wouldn’t hold my breath about being able to negate damage one weapons. I can’t see Games Workshop allowing this but I have been wrong before. The downside to this unit is that their price is a little higher than I thought and they are fixed to 3 suits, no more no less. If you have nine of them, I can see them forming the core of an army, similar to some of the Dreadnought and Contemptor focused builds. With Morvenn buffing them all it would make them much more deadly at range and could even cause a ruckus in melee.

After talking all this it may just be that this unit is a trap, where they look too good on paper but perhaps they underperform. This is one of those units you may just include because they look cool and that’s not necessarily a bad thing. I really am dying to see what some of the top-tier players do with the army as a whole and if the Paragon Warsuits are a part of that winning equation.

~That’s all for this week. I hope you enjoyed the article. Let me know what you think, and what you are looking forward to in the new Sisters codex, in the comments section below.
