This week the Bad Batch take on crime syndicates, the spice trade, and underground tunnels a we guess which characters may make a guest appearance next.

In Episode thirteen the Bad Batch were back on Ord Mantell trying to help Cid with a job a little closer to home.

Devaronians

This week Roland Durand took on the Bad Batch, but usually he Take On Me.

This week’s prominent antagonist was Roland Durand, a Devaronian and son of crime lord Isa Durand. Coming from the planet Devaron, the Devaronians are the aliens with pointed teeth and horns that you could first see in A New Hope whose name has a pretty obvious “devil” reference. Roland Durand may or may not also be linked to a familiar Devaronian crime lord from the Broken Horn Syndicate, Cikatro Vizago. Cikatro has appeared in Rebels and is likely not directly related to Roland, but by the end of the episode the ‘broken horn’ similarity is very present. Roland is also the owner of Ruby, the armadillo like lizard that the Batch had to get back from the Rhokai way back in episode seven.

Ord Mantell & The Spice Trade

Ord Mantell, where Cid’s bar is located and this entire episode takes place, has had a long history in Star Wars lore, including the Expanded Universe. It’s known as a hub for bounty hunters, criminals, smugglers, and of course Spice. And appropriately much of this episode centered around criminal enterprises, spice, and criminal enterprises trying to get their hands on spice. Aside from this week’s cast of characters, Ord Mantell has housed famous crime syndicate, Black Sun. While Black Sun themselves had yet to make themselves known in The Bad Batch, with so many other crime syndicates coming on the scene and causing trouble, it wouldn’t be surprising if we saw some of them this season.

The Pykes

Despite having a prominent crime lord for a mother, Roland Durand is trying to make a name for himself by working The Pykes. The Pykes syndicate is famous for their part in the spice supply train and have made appearances in The Clone Wars as well as Solo: A Star Wars Story. They are generally a group that implies bad news for anyone who crosses them, but The Pykes are also associated with Maul, one of Star Wars’s most unkillable bad pennies slash fan favorites. Considering The Bad Batch’s track record incredible character cameos, this may spell out a future appearance of Maul himself, or it may just be a reference to the prevalence of the underworld and the many competing crime syndicates in this uncertain time in the galaxy’s history. But we’re hoping for the former.
