Between breaking records, and picking up a critically acclaimed director for its live action adaptation, My Hero Academia movies can’t be stopped.

My Hero Academia is easily one of the most popular animes in the world right now and with the most recent movie selling an unprecedented number of tickets while production moves forward on the upcoming live action film, it’s safe to say that MHA will be “Detroit Smashing” its way into the spotlight for the foreseeable future.

World Heroes’ Mission, the third feature-length movie to come out of the My Hero Academia franchise premiered in theaters in Japan on August 6th. Since its opening date it has sold over one million tickets and doubled the opening weekend earnings of the previous movie, Heroes Rising, meeting and surpassing sales milestones faster than either of the previous two movies in the series.

Of course, after the record-breaking success of the Demon Slayer movie earlier this year, seeing anime movies break records and become commercial and critical successes is far from surprising. World Heroes’ Mission features Deku finding himself framed for a massacre. The trio of Deku, Bakugo and Todoroki on worldwide run from the law to attempt to clear his name as they meet international heroes and take on an anti-Quirk cult.

The My Hero Academia anime series will have 108 episodes at the conclusion of the currently airing season five, which you can watch on Netflix, Hulu, Crunchyroll, and Funimation. The first movie in the series, Two Heroes can be watched on Netflix while second movie, Heroes Rising, can be streamed on Hulu. Unfortunately at this time there is no word on when we can expect an international release date or even if there will be a theatrical release or if World Heroes’ Mission will come straight to streaming.

Of course, that’s not the only My Hero Academia movie news right now, and if you didn’t know that an English language live-action MHA movie was on the horizon… now you do! Making his English language movie debut, Japanese filmmaker Shinsuke Sato will be directing My Hero Academia‘s live-action adaptation for Legendary Entertainment.

Sato is known for directing 2018’s Inuyashiki, the 2019 critically acclaimed film, Kingdom, and writing and directing an adaptation of Bleach for Warner Bros. Japan. He has also won the 2016 Midnighter Audience award at SXSW for his adaptation of the Japanese zombie manga, I am A Hero. Not much else is known about the upcoming My Hero Academia project at this time, but we’re cautiously optimistic and will be keeping an eye out for any more news that may come out of UA.
