IDW Games Reported Shutting Down, Financial Losses Cited
Makers of Machi Koro and TMNT: Shadows of the Past, and more have been seemingly shut down, according to financial reports.
The games that IDW Games put out were never runaway successes. Games like the Legend of Korra game, Ghostbusters x Men in Black, Galaxy Hunters, and, of course, their most popular game Machi Koro, were all really fun, thematic, and solid games over all. But according to a fiscal report, their time on the tabletop has come to an end.
IDW Media Holdings released a fiscal report on the 2021 Q2 results and down in the ‘Loss (Income) from Operations” is a line slipped into the paragraph which doesn’t really stand out until you notice it. A line in which they refer to tabletop games as “a line of business from which IDWP has exited”.
The report has no other mention regarding their games division. But, IDW Games twitter is still active as of this writing and the IDW Games website is also up and running just fine.
IDW Games has been having a rocky time for the last little while, with several delays and cancellations to the Metal Gear Solid game, and a Bomberman game. We’re all very concerned about the future of the Batman: The Animated Series game which just wrapped up on Kickstarter. And me and probably several other Sonic fans are concerned about the status of the Sonic the Hedgehog games they have.
Since IDW Games hasn’t made any official announcement, we can only speculate. But my assumption is they will slowly fade away, rather than leave with a bang.
