Marvel’s ‘Eternals’ Final Trailer Hints at a New Apocalypse
This new trailer gives us the first look at what the Eternals are up against – and it’s not just the Deviants this time.
Marvel’s silent defenders of earth go to war in Eternals. The first trailer was more of a broad look at the movie – gorgeous, sweeping wide shots, seconds of epic battles, and centuries of human culture.
The new trailer introduces its characters and their mission – thanks to Thanos and Hulk’s snap that brought back what the super villain erased, the deviants (and their leader Kro) are back in force.
The Emergence Ajax talks about is connected with the Celestials (an ancient race of beings who created everything). A major event in the galaxy could call them back into existence, or at least call their attention to our tiny planet to cast judgment. Eson the Searcher, who initially carried the power stone, is featured in the trailer – he was known for vaporizing planets and their inhabitants, so not really a good Celestial to have around.
It definitely looks like an apocalyptic event is coming and it’s up to the Eternals to protect Earth from whatever that may bring – even if it’s an ancient alien space god.
This isn’t the first time we’ve seen a Celestial in the MCU – Knowhere in Guardians of the Galaxy is built within the head of one and Ego (not a Celestial in the comics, but he is categorized as one in the MCU) was the central villain of that movie’s sequel. It’s going to be interesting to see if this is a one-time battle or if the Celestials are going to have a bigger part in phase four.
The Eternals are (from left) – Kumail Nanjiani (Kingo), Lauren Ridloff (Makkari), Ma Dong-seok (Gilgamesh), Angelina Jolie (Thena), Brian Tyree Henry (Phastos), Salma Hayek (Ajak), Gemma Chan (Sersi), Lia McHugh (Sprite), Richard Madden (Ikarus), Barry Keoghan (Druig).
The Eternals, a race of immortal beings with superhuman powers who have secretly lived on Earth for thousands of years, reunite to battle the evil Deviants.
Eternals is directed by Oscar-winner Chloé Zhao.
Eternals arrives in theaters on November 5th.
