Warhammer 40K: Black Templars Bring A New Way To Torch Heretics With A ‘Pyreblaster’
Did you think the Black Templars were just getting a new codex and Emperor’s Champion? Guess again. More models are on the way!
It’s time to purge some heretics and nothing does that better than fire. The Black Templars have always been an innovative bunch when it comes to how to best roast heretics. They were the first to bring the Land Raider Crusader to the tabletop. And now they are bringing a new weapon with their revamp for 9th – meet the Pyreblaster!

“It’s got a sturdier design and longer barrel than a traditional flamer, so the pyreblaster can hurl promethium-based annihilation with devastating force. Those wielding these weapons can make their blazing presence known from further away while searing through an enemy’s armour with even greater vim.”
It’s not just an upgrade to the flamers of old either, this weapon has some new rules that make it even better. Yes, GW just Primaris’d the Flamer!
Going up to 15″ of range for this weapon is pretty spicy! It’s also Assault D6 and auto hits. I’m really wondering how many of these you can bring in a unit because if you can run a couple of these, and literally run up within 15″ and get your flame-on, that would be pretty solid!
More Clues About What Else Is Next
The teasers don’t just stop with the Pyreblaster either. Note that the name of this model is Primaris Initiate with pyreblaster. Black Templars naming conventions include your full-on battle brother Initiates and their newly recruited Neophytes. Are we going to see some Black Templar Neophytes as well?
Also note the tabard this Initiate is rocking. This confirms our suspicions from the cover art. There has to be a new Black Templar conversion or upgrade kit on the way, right? GW pretty much confirmed that as well:
“You might have noticed that the pyreblaster comes complete with a chain attaching it to the warrior’s wrist in the traditional manner of the Black Templars – perhaps that’s a hint at what else is on the way. Or maybe this particular chap is just prone to misplacing his belongings.”
Yeah…I’m pretty sure that is a “hint at what else is on the way.” Let’s go out on a limb and say that we’re about to get a new Black Templars Primaris box of some sort. And I can’t wait to see what it turns out to be.
The new codex is on the way soon enough, we know it’s slated for release later this year. And it looks like there’s going to be a new batch of space crusading Black Templar models to accompany it as well!
…but does it come with a compartment for marshmallows?
