Star Wars: That One Time They Tried To Replace The Millennium Falcon- The YT-2400 Breakdown
A fast Corellian freighter, piloted by a hotshot rogue? Well this isn’t quite the ship you are looking for.
The YT-2400 Corellion Light Freighter is the latest evolution of the YT-series light freighters. A stock cargo hauler designed with speed, cargo capacity, and a few innovations that, combined with a new set of servo-turrets and other upgrades, the Corellion Engineering Corporation had hoped would replace the infamous YT-1300. As if anything could pull the CEC’s handiwork out from under the reputation of one of the most deft smugglers in the galaxy, Han Solo, or one of the most recognizable ships in the Millennium Falcon.
To their credit, the YT-2400 had a great deal to offer compared to its predecessor though. The cockpit was set apart from the main hull and linked directly to an escape pod, allowing for the CEC to make the YT-2400 more compact and maneuverable than the baseline model. The new model was capable of being piloted by a single pilot, though they would be hard pressed to operate the new weapons systems which amounted to:
- Two dual servo-turret mounted laser cannon
- Four Concussion missile launchers
And that was the baseline. CEC seemed to know that YT-series pilots, often being a more reckless bunch, preferred to customize their craft. And so a YT-2400 came standard with 13 different weapon mounts, though only 6 were used off of the factory floor.
In addition to its greater customization and slightly heavier weapons, the YT-2400 could reach atmospheric speeds of up to 800kph and came with a Class 2 Hyperdrive and a Class 12 backup hyperdrive–both of which could be powered by a newly designed power core that gave the YT-2400 twice the power of other YT models, allowing for oversized engines and additional modifications.
The one thing that a YT-2400 needed was a famous pilot.
