‘The Matrix: Resurrections’ First Trailer is Here and It’s Stunning
The long awaited first look at the sequel has arrived and it’s so much more than the description we got last month.
Lana Wachowski and crew have been tight-lipped about the plot of the movie. We learned a bit about the story with the release of the first trailer at CinemaCon last month – Neo (Thomas Anderson) seems to have some sort of amnesia and is living an average life, but something is amiss in his world. He is thrust back into the duality of his existence when a young man offers him a red pill, revealing his past life to him.
The trailer is more than that.
There are a ton of callbacks to the original trilogy to jog Neo’s clouded memory – the odd bird formations, the choice to take the red pill, following the rabbit, the wardrobe (down to the Yahya Abdul-Mateen II’s armless sunglasses), the glitchy transformation of the agents, and the action. It has the feel, but its look is cleaner thanks to advancements in CG over the last 20+ years. Let’s hope its story is as impressive.
Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss are reprising their roles and they’re joined by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Neil Patrick Harris, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Brian J. Smith, Jonathan Groff, and more. The cast is star-studded, to say the least.
The Matrix: Resurrections arrives in theaters and HBO Max on December 22nd.
