The Primaris Protocol has hit all the big names for the Black Templars – and Grimaldus is no exception.

Dubbed the ‘Hero of Helsreach’ Chaplain Grimaldus has crossed the Rubicon Primaris and has a new model. We didn’t know if he’d make it! But you should never underestimate this old warrior.

“He may be clad in a shiny new suit of Mk X Tacitus Armour, but the detailing is full of callbacks to his classic miniature. From the bonding studs in his greaves to the candles on his backpack, Grimaldus is dripping in nostalgia and looking sharper than ever before.”

That’s quite the new model! And, of course, it’s got some callbacks to his previous one, too.

Oh – and it’s not JUST Grimaldus that got a Primaris-sized upgrade either. His servitor buddies are back with a new look also:

“The servitors carry the Banner of Fallen Crusaders, the Sceptre of Anointing, and the Remnant of the Fallen Temple. They form a procession-like unit on the battlefield that rallies the spirits of nearby Black Templars and drives them onward. “

This is certainly evocative of their old artwork and it’s a great update as well.

And hey – GW didn’t even remove the artist’s signature this time!

This is quite the reimagining of this classic Black Templar unit. It’s not what I would have done, but apparently the Primaris Protocol is getting easier and safer to implement. The Black Templars are certainly benefiting as they have gotten all three of their big names updated with new Primaris Models. Grimaldus joins the ranks of the Emperor’s Champion and High Marshal Helbrecht now.

It’s going to be a very interesting to see how the new models have impacted the rules for the Black Templars. Thankfully, they are getting a new codex and Army Box very soon. I can’t wait to see what’s changed and how they are going to function moving forward!
