Games Workshop, we’ve still got a long way to go to get away from Finecast. Replacing these models would be a BIG step in the right direction.

Oh Finecast…you certainly were a thing. And the fans of Warhammer Miniatures were not a fan of you. Finecast is/was a stop gap between the old metal miniatures and a replacement kit (presumably in plastic). GW has been slowly replacing older Finecast models with newer plastic kits and the results have been great. Most recently, the Deffkopta is FINALLY getting a new plastic version so that is nice. But going through the catalog there are still lots of kits that need to be replaced. Here’s a few we dug up.

Thunderfire Cannon

It’s still available. It’s still in the Space Marine Codex. And it’s still Finecast. There was some folks who thought maybe it’s time was about up with the arrival of the Hammerfall Bunker and the Firestrike Servo-turret. While both of those options are thematically defensive, neither really does what the Thunderfire cannon does. Plus, it’s at least one way to get a Techmarine. And speaking of Techmarines…

Techmarine with Servitors

Guess who’s still rocking that retinue? Yep! It’s also still available and still in Finecast. And hey, just as a bonus don’t forget the OTHER Techmarine who’s also still in finecast.

It’s really debatable if we’re ever going to see these models replaced. I mean, we DO have the Primaris Techmarine who is in superior plastic already. Who knows how long GW is planning on keeping these kits around.

Mutilator/Obliterator Kit

Hey – didn’t we get plastic Obliterators? Oh wait…we never got a solo kit for those, did we? And what about the Mutilators?! Those are still finecast, too! Gee…I wonder if we’re ever going to see an updated plastic combo kit for these models. As for now: Where are my plastic Obliterator kits!!!?!? Why are those Obliterators only available in the Chaos Starter box? Because GW hates me. That’s why.

Commissar

There are now only two Commissar kits (not counting Yarrick) and both of them are finecast.

The poses are fine and all but for a model that’s kind of important to the Astra Militarum army (or rather it USED to be) these two models are kind of limited. I’m genuinely surprised we haven’t gotten a plastic combo/character kit for this miniature. Seems like a generic Commissar kit would do quite well.

Bio/Pyrovore Kit

And finally we have the Bio/Pyrovore kits. These are still only available in finecast. Why GW hasn’t made a dual-combo kit for them in plastic yet is beyond me. At this point these two models should just be put into meme status and never get replaced. We can all keep making jokes about them and complain about how they are only finecast forever.

Besides “All” – are there any other specific finecast models you’d LOVE to see get replaced?
