Warhammer 40K: The Skorpius Disintegrator Kills You Without Having To See You – This Week’s Meta Hotness
Let’s take a look at a unit that is turning the opposition to dust, the Skorpius Disintegrator.
In the ever-shifting meta of 40K armies rise and fall. We’ve spent a lot of time talking about armies that are hot or not and a lot less time looking at units that are running the show. That changes today as we’re taking a look at one of the hottest units currently running around the tabletop: The Skorpius Disintegrator!
The Unit
The Skorpius Disintegrator is an Adeptus Mechanicus/Skitarii Heavy Support tank. This armored hover tank is designed to glide over the dudes of Mars with ease, and delivery a ton of firepower. Armed with a variety of mid/long-range weapons its is a perfect support vehicle for advancing Skitarii.
Why They Are Good
The Skorpius boasts a pretty standard stat line for a tank. With 12 wounds, T7 and a 3+ save, it’s really right in the average range for a tank. This isn’t something you can just destroy with a random shot here or there, but also not something that an army will really struggle with taking out. Being Skitarii gives it access to a lot of potential buffs and the board spectrum data-tether is a nice bonus, but the real reason the Skorpius is good is its guns.
The Disintegrator comes with a really solid assortment of weapons. 3 Cognis Heavy Stubbers allow for good anti-horde output and it can chew through light infantry. The Disruptor Missile Launcher is a super versatile weapon. In a pinch, it can work to take down enemy armor and is really good vs light vehicles. With D3 damage it’s also a decent anti-MEQ weapons, and thanks to Blast it’s also good at taking on a horde. The real star however is the Belleros Energy Cannon, which is pretty much the universal choice over the Ferrumite Cannon. With heavy 3d3 and Blast it can put out a lot of shots. At S5 AP -1 and D2 this weapon is amazing a killing MEQ or even light vehicles. Best of all it doesn’t need LoS, so it’s hard to hide from and can snipe out lone characters. Overall the tank can put out up to 27 shots a turn, at a current 145 Pts that nearly 1 shot for every 5 pts, and 15 of those can kill MEQ. This is a highly efficient gun platform.
A Sample List
Saying a unit is hot is all well and good but let’s take a look at how players are using it. A lot of Admech lists have been running Disintegrators and have done well at a number of recent events recently. One list that shows off the use of them is Justin Jansen’s list he ran to take 1st place at the recent Alliance Open GT. (via 40kstats.com)

Using the Unit
Justin’s list ran two Disintegrators. Run as Mars they get some free re-rolls and access to two sets of buffs that can really boost them up. Outside of that, there isn’t a huge trick to them. With 6 Ironstriders in the list, most of the heavy anti-tank is taken care of, while the hordes of infantry counter light troops. This leaves the Disintegrators to concentrate on taking down MEQ units or if not fighting them to support either the heavier or lighter troops.
