Age of Sigmar: Yet Another Stormcast FAQ Update
It’s part 3 of the Epic Saga that is the Stormcast FAQ update for October 2021. Did Games Workshop finally get it right? Let’s take a look!
The short answer to the question above is: Yes. But let’s back-up a bit. What happened? This started two days ago on Tuesday of this week. I wrote an article commenting on how the Stormcast and Kruleboyz FAQs were running a bit behind GW’s typical schedule of updates. Typically, it takes them about 2 weeks to put out an FAQ when a new Battletome or Codex drops. These books were pushing 4 weeks. The next day, Games Workshop dropped the FAQs. Great! That solves that, right? …Not exactly.
In my follow-up post mentioning that “hey, we got FAQs!” I made another comment about a particular Stormcast ability. Here’s what I wrote about the FAQ as a whole:
“This one is a bit more info but it’s VERY barebones. This is what makes me think that GW had this on ice and forgot to get them out there. The Cycle of the Storm ability has some strange interactions which I’ll get into later – I was personally hoping that GW would clarify a few things about it before I had to point it out. For now, from my reading of this update to it, Cycle of the Storm no longer prevents Overkill Wounds from killing the model now. It’s just a complex way to prevent 1 damage to a unit.”
What is Cycle of the Storm and what was I going to write about it? Well turns out it doesn’t matter because later that day Games Workshop updated the FAQ again.

It’s a lot less “barebones” now. Realistically it’s just the same rule getting updated across multiple units – but guess what that rule was: Cycle of the Storm. You see, there was some weird interactions with the terminology before. The key part was how Slain works and how the ability triggers. But now none of that matters. The ability has been reworded to the rule above and it’s MUCH cleaner and clearer.
Anyhow, I think this update of the update probably should have been documented better. I mean, GW has a system in place for that. Or maybe someone just uploaded the wrong document initially. I dunno what happened. All I know is that I’m going to Check the FAQ Page again today to make sure there isn’t another FAQ update waiting.
