Star Wars: That Time They Actually Did Replace Slave I – The Slave II Breakdown
Despite rumors, Disney has not in fact renamed Slave I, but speaking of, there was time that Lucasfilm did try to replace it…
There was a time when the most infamous Bounty Hunter in the galaxy traded out the third-most infamous ship in the galaxy for a new one. Though some of Lucasfilm’s decisions have been rewritten, come and take a look at the Legend that was Slave II.
Slave II was a MandalMotoros Pursuer-class enforcement ship owned by the notorious bounty hunter Boba Fett and employed around 10 ABY (in the Legends timeline). As the name “enforcement ship” suggests, Pursuer-class ships were employed most often by Mandalorian police units in skirmishes with pirates. Durable and well-armed (for non-military vessels), these ships were prized for their cargo space and the ease with which they could be modified.
Which is perhaps, what drew Boba Fett to purchase the ship in the first place. Shortly after purchasing the vessel that would become Slave II, Fett modified it heavily. It was outfitted with two Tion Mil/Sci Industries Mil-StarIV engines for its main propulsion, and three Corellian Engineering x41 maneuvering thrusters mounted on its port-side stabilizer gave it extra agility in a dogfight.
Fett outfitted the ship with two military grade shield generators, and modified the Slave II‘s standard forward-firing blaster cannons and ion cannon turret for increased power. He also added a reward-firing proton torpedo launcher with a magazine of six torpedos to enable the bounty hunter to get the drop on any potential pursuers. And of course, the ship was outfitted with a sophisticated sensor array enabling it to track prey across the galaxy.
Fett first took ownership of Slave II after escaping the Great Pit of Carkoon. Vowing revenge on Han Solo, and with Slave I impounded, Fett obtained Slave II and was able to find the Milennium Falcon, however, even with the ship’s modifications, the smuggler was able to outfly Slave II, leaving it to flounder abandoned in Drydock until it was eventually stolen by pirates.
