Total War: Warhammer 3 – Tzeentch And Grand Cathay Slug It Out In Siege Preview
Do you want to see one of the set piece battles of Total War: Warhammer 3 looks like? Check out this new Cathay vs. Tzeentch trailer.
Creative Assembly have pulled out all the stops in a new Total War: Warhammer 3 gameplay preview. The hosts of Tzeentch have assembled at the gates of Grand Cathay’s Great Bastion with an army of daemons ready to bring Chaos to Cathay. In a 9 minute curated gameplay preview, you get a look at new mechanics as Kairos Fateweaver and Miao Ying square off against each other.
The Great Bastion — constructed thousands of years past by the Dragon Emperor — is under siege. The armies of Tzeentch are storming the gates… Will Miao Ying be able to defend the Northern Provinces once again?
You get to see some of the new units in action, including a glimpse of Miao Ying’s dragon form absolutely wrecking some shop.
We also get a look at key elements of the Great Bastion’s layout. There are at least three gates to the Great Bastion, and probably a few others–especially since the campaign map is supposed to be at least twice the size of the Vortex campaign map. You also get to see spellcasters in action, with multiple wizards buffing each other’s potency–your damage and effects get buffed as you have more casters in the same army.
We also got a little more about the Harmony mechanic, where your army buffs the battlefield condition if you have melee and ranged units near each other.
We also got a glimpse of what Tzeentch can do.
And first things first, we see Kairos walking AND flying in the video, and the devs have confirmed elsewhere that there will in fact be a flying toggle. So you can have your units flying or walking which matters, depending on what you’re up against.
We also got to see a new magical barrier in action, protecting the hordes of horrors charging the wall–to the point that some of them make it through. It also feels like the first wall of a Siege might be a little easier to breach, since it seems that infantry just have ladders and can bring ’em out of nowhere. It might be for dramatic effect in the video, but it does make for a more desperate feeling battle. It calls to mind charging out of the gates in desperate sorties to try and protect and draw away attacking units in sieges in Total War: Three Kingdoms.
At any rate, the video is worth the watch for the narrator alone, but take a look and get ready for sieges.
