Warhammer 40K: Kill Team – A Closer Look At Adepta Sororitas Novitiates
The Adepta Sororitas Novitiates are new models arriving in the new Kill Team: Chalnath box and we’re getting a closer look at their rules!
There is a new Kill Team Box on the way and it’s featuring the Adepta Sororitas and the T’au in the updated skirmish game. Today, GW is showcasing the new unit the Sisters of Battle are bringing to the tabletop. It’s time to meet the Adepta Sororitas Novitiates!
“Adepta Sororitas Novitiates are junior members of their order, a mixture of would-be Battle Sisters and others who will eventually find their way into the non-militant orders. As impetuous youths, these sisters bring a fanatical frenzy to supposedly covert missions, using flamers and massive double-handed eviscerator chainswords to bring the Emperor’s justice to their enemies.”
To kick things off we’re starting with the Novitiate Superior who leads the junior Sisters into battle. And from the looks of things she leads from the front – what better way to teach than to show the Novitiates how it’s done!
She’s the only member of the squad who has the full Sisters kit – Power Armor and an honest-to-emperor Boltgun. She’s got other options you can choose, too. Feel free to kit her out how you best see fit. Her Lead by Example rule allows another Novitiate to Ready and then Activate when she performs a mission action or incapacitates an enemy operative.
“What could be stealthier than crackling electric cables that you turn on your own squadmates as often as you do your enemies? They might sound unpleasant, but they clearly work – it’s a great way to get your fellow sisters into action, granting them an extra AP and a burst of movement. “
Sometimes you just need a little motivation and the Exactor can provide that for your Sisters. She can “inspire” them to really make them get up and GO. She works particularly well on troopers like the Novitiate Penitent who prefers to get up close and personal:
Acts of Faith
And now we get into what really makes this Kill Team unlike any other. You didn’t think the Sisters were going to leave their Acts of Faith at home, did you?
So what can this pool of Faith Points do for the Sisters? Why they get re-rolls and auto passes, of course:
“There are plenty of other Acts of Faith to use, allowing you to guarantee a critical hit at the crucial moment, or shrug off a mortal wound. The Emperor does, after all, provide.”
Games Workshop showed off some other wargear which you can see here. But I’m just going to hit the pause button on that and go on rant for a moment.
I genuinely dislike the Faith Point mechanic that the Sisters have. Getting a pool of points to spend to “ guarantee a critical hit at the crucial moment, or shrug off a mortal wound” is not a good way to make this faction different. Kill Team doesn’t have the volume of models as standard 40k. So getting a “free” crit or being able to ignore a mortal wound – even if it’s once per round – is really strong. Taking the “dice” out of a dice game kind of kills it for me. Tzeentch Daemons with their pre-game dice (in AoS) do this, too. I really don’t like either option and really don’t enjoy playing against armies that do this stuff. But whatever…it’s on the way like it or not. /rantover
At least the models are nice.
