Warhammer: The Old World – Border Princes Update
Games Workshop is showing off an updated map of the Old World and has some new bits of information on the project.
The Warhammer Old World Project is going strong at GW and the team is busy filling in the maps of the era. This ambitious project is exploring some previously “blank” areas or areas that were intentially left open to the players as a sandbox. Now, they have decided to essentially take a snapshot of the Old World at a particular moment in time and really fill out the world. Today, we’re getting a look at one of these previously blank spots – the Border Princes.
“Andy Hoare: The Border Princes is a rugged, largely arid region occupying a crossroads between the various nations and factions of the Warhammer world. It’s an area well-used to the tread of invading armies passing through in all directions. As such, it’s claimed by no one nation.
Instead, it’s a patchwork of petty kingdoms. Each is ruled over for a brief period by a leader charismatic or despotic enough to claim a temporary throne before being knocked off it within a year or two by the next rival. Exiled nobles and fallen warlords come to the Border Princes from far and wide to set themselves up as rulers, gathering any waifs and strays that will flock to their tattered banners.”
As mentioned, this area is a fairly turbulent space in the Old World. Armies march through, banners shift, battles happen – it’s certainly not a “settled” place. That’s what made it so perfect as a place for players to stage their own campaigns. But now, we have a look at some of the banners of the nobles who have claimed this area and it’s quite the array!
“To capture this area of shifting power and fate, we’ve created a snapshot of the region as it might appear for a very brief moment in time. The places are largely permanent, but the people occupying them are very far from it. “
There’s a staggering amount of detail going on in these two new pictures. From rivers and roads to the various mountains and forests. Plus all the different settlements, forts and castles. It’s really cool to see how this map is developing. Of course that also means the setting is coming together and while we still don’t have all the details on that you can bet it’s going to be a vibrant place once the team at GW is ready to call it “done.”
There’s still lots of work to be done – but what do you think of the Old Worlds impressive maps so far?
