Warhammer Underworlds: Let’s Talk Heroes and Villains of Harrowdeep

Nothing to see here Warhammer Underworlds fans, just a nice day amongst friends at the Harrowdeep beach.

The new season of Warhammer Underworlds is going up for pre-order this weekend, and it’s bringing a lot of new stuff to the skirmish battlefield; a new location, a new breed of Orruk, and the first incarnation of Thunderstrike armor on the small scale. The underwater caves and caverns of Harrowdeep are a chilling challenge for even the most battle-hardened adventurers (with the exception of the Idoneth, who are probably right at home).

However, these two forces are going to face them nonetheless, whether to cleanse them of Chaos taint or claim them as a brand new stompin’ ground. While we don’t know too much about their rules or special cards just yet, we know their basic gameplay and of course how incredible they all look, so let’s take a look at our first two swimming teams headed into the depths of Harrowdeep.

Xandire’s Truthseekers

The newest of Sigmar’s champions in the harsh battlefields of the Underworlds are Xandire’s Truthseekers, a small warband of three Thunderstrike Stormcast and their loyal aetherwing companion. Xandire herself is armed with a massive sigmarite blade and carries the Lantern Astrala, a magical Azyrite artifact to help light her way in the gloom of the deep sea (and likely smite any foes unlucky enough to cross her path). Her heavily armored friend is Dhoraz Giant-fell, wielding a wicked-looking greathammer that can probably remove weaker models in a single attack and will definitely be put to good use smiting the Kruleboyz these champions are up against.

Rounding out the squad are Luxa Stormrider, the first officially released Vigilor model, and her aetherwing Taros, to provide ranged support and keep the enemy occupied while her companions get closer. Overall, this looks like your standard fair Stormcast army, able to shift tactics as needed and relatively well-rounded in melee and ranged combat. I’m interested to see how the lantern will interact with the larger game of Age of Sigmar, and how these new warriors will set themselves apart from their Sigmarite kin.

Da Kunnin’ Krew

The first Kruleboyz to hit the Underworlds, Da Kunnin’ Krew have come to Harrowdeep hoping to find a good hangout for da ladz, and all these pesky enemies are in the way! The leader of the gang is the handsome gentleman in the cage, Mannok da Kunnin’, and he’s just as likely to whip his own squad as his enemies to get his way. Of course, with that giant claw spear and long whip he’s surely not fighting in the front ranks, and probably has a two or three hex threat range.

 

The other orruk is Torka Tuffskul, a Snatchaboss in training trying to get his own Sludgeraker by proving his worth to Mannok. Rounding out the krew are the grots Gikkit and Shank and the hobgrot Krookgrin, who are more than likely just meat shields to absorb enemy hammer blows. Still, i wouldn’t count out that spiked shackle or barbed net, so we’ll just have to see how deadly the little guys can be.
