Age of Sigmar: 3 Things the Maggotkin Need Next
They say beggars can’t be choosers but…maybe just a little? Let’s talk Maggotkin of Nurgle.
Warhammer day brought us a ton of exciting previews for almost every Games Workshop property, from a new expansion for Warcry to a brand new way to play Blood Bowl. However, perhaps most exciting was the long-awaited release of a brand new battletome for the Maggotkin of Nurgle and a new Sorcerer.
However, some of Grandfather Nurgle‘s more devoted children were a little disappointed that we didn’t see more additions to their diseased range. There are several armies without many options, but Nurgle has a saturation of special characters without much in the way of battleline, especially when compared to the other Chaos factions. Here are three more kits that I think would be an excellent addition to the Nurgle battletome and bring the Maggotkin into the Realms in style.
Pestigors
Of course, the primary thing people were clambering for with this update is the addition of Pestigors to the pantheon of marked Beastmen. The Tzaangors are extremely popular, and the Slaangors are starting to find their stride, so it seemed like the next logical step to bring the pestilent goats into the fray as well. While it’s still possible that we’ll see more with the Nurgle release, as GW rarely likes to reveal their whole hand, it was a little disheartening to see the distinct lack of Beasts of Chaos. But then…maybe they’re saving them for the relevant release of a full goat-dex.
Marauders
Every other god-aligned faction has a lightly armored marauder-style unit, like the Bloodreavers or Kairic Acolytes, so it was a surprise not to see them previewed during the event. It would be interesting to see what a Nurgle marauder would look like, probably closer to the lithe Blissbarbs of Slaanesh with a bit more…sauce, maybe even something akin to Pox Walker zombies. Then again, with Nurgle’s love of opulence, we may see more rotund warriors with open wounds or extra mouths and limbs.
Ogroid-style Hero
Nurgle is a big fan of slightly more fleshy warriors, so it would stand to reason that a larger-than-standard hero would be on the rise like the Ogroid Myrmidon. While Tzeentch is currently the only faction with its own Ogre hero, Nurgle would be the perfect candidate for a giant warrior who wants nothing more than to share the pestilent gift with his frenemies. Maybe even a slightly more swollen Blightking would suffice, a warrior who has given himself over entirely as a vessel for disease.
