‘MultiVersus’ Has No Right To Look This Exciting
It should be just a meme game. But with 2v2 team play, a focus on stability, and voice acting, MultiVersus is doing everything right.
We’d been getting hints and rumors about the Warner Bros platform fighter for a while now. But with a reveal trailer finally out, we’re getting some definitive details and it looks really appealing. And since Smash Ultimate has finally wrapped, it’s time for the floodgates to open.
From watching the trailer, we learned a lot of new information. One of the main pieces of gameplay that stands out is how much team-play is emphasized.
It sounds like most (if not all) characters will have some ability that is meant specifically to be used in the 2v2 format. For example, we see Wonder Woman save Finn the Human (or Garnet, it’s hard to tell) from falling off the ledge with her Lasso of Truth. Then we see Bugs Bunny digging a tunnel, which Finn also uses.
The trailer also reveals they will have cross-play, leaderboards, and guilds. For a game that was a meme before it even began, MultiVersus is doing a lot of things right.
They’ll have dedicated servers for the entire lifetime of the game. They also make specific mention of looking for strong stability in terms of lag reduction.
Of course, there are going to be in-game purchases. But we can only hope they are only cosmetic.
We see some shots of what looks like a Battle Pass-type system and we can also see slots for Emotes. Later, we see some sort of talent tree.
This worries me a little since I’m hoping this doesn’t fall into a pay-to-win situation. But if they are easily unlockable, then I could be on board with some play-style customization. Or if it’s just an optional game mode like the Spirit Board in Smash.
There are going to be daily missions, and of course, there are skins as well. With such a wide array of characters, I’m genuinely excited to see what sort of stuff they can pull off.
And the absolute cherry on top is the voice acting. They got several of the correct voice actors, such as Kevin Conroy to voice Batman.
Warner Bros. has a lot of properties to choose from for this game. And we’ve already heard leaks of some of the planned characters, like Rick and Morty. You can sign up for a chance to get into the playtests at MultiVersus.com.
Reindog is an original character for MultiVersus
There’s going to be tons of characters, and they mention they will be constantly adding more as time goes on. So, if you’re not sure who to play, just trust your ultra instincts.
I’m maining Shaggy or Finn. What about you?
