‘The Boys’ Season 3 – First Look at Crimson Countess
Another WWII era supe is being added to ‘The Boys‘ – meet Crimson Countess.
We’ve already gotten a look at Jensen Ackles as Soldier Boy. The character is getting a bit of a retrofit – the show is skipping the cowardly suck up of the comics and going back to the supe that was around during WWII. He’s tougher and can go toe-to-toe with Homelander.

Our first look at Laurie Holden as Crimson Countess just dropped. Crimson Countess was a member of Payback and active around the same time as Soldier Boy. We got a little glimpse of her character design in season two via a weathered poster.

I’m looking forward to season three – I didn’t expect the adaptation from the comics to work but it really has. From the start, there was an expectation for the show to be shocking and outrageous due to the source material, but they’ve managed to make a brilliant, psychological satire that’s also both shocking and outrageous.
The show also tackles a lot of topics head-on that others skirt around. The universe allows for real-world issues like sexism, racism, corporate control, homophobia, and exceptionalism to be confronted.

It is an odd one in the superhero genre in that it’s fully character-driven – and it works because the casting is so spot on and the writing is sharp. Showrunner Eric Kripke revealed to Deadline some of the questions thrown around the writer’s room to keep it that way.
“’What would that do to them psychologically? And where are they? And what is their level of insecurity at this point, or paranoia?’ We spend the vast majority of the time talking about getting inside these characters’ heads. And only then when that’s over, we say, ‘What does that remind us of politically and satirically that’s happening in the world, that we really want to talk about?’ And then only when that’s over and literally in the last week, we’re like, ‘All right, where’s the exploding whale, or the giant dick, or where’s all the things that go on the front of the cereal box?’”

The cast includes Karl Urban, Jack Quaid Laz Alonso, Karen Fukuhara, Tomer Kapon, Antony Starr, Erin Moriarty, Jessie T Usher, Nate Mitchell, Chace Crawford, Dominique McElligott, Claudia Doumit, and Giancarlo Esposito. Jensen Ackles and Laurie Holden aren’t the only additions, Katia Winter is playing Little Nina. I hope we get photos of her in costume soon.
