Summon the Elector Counts, today we’re taking a look at improvements to battles, UI, and more in the upcoming Total War: Warhammer 3.

It’s time once more to dive into the Old World, this time we’re back with a host of new improvements made to the overall quality of life–and specifically to battles–in Total War: Warhammer 3. Off the jump, there are some changes that feel like they’ve been a long time coming, like the fact that an army’s formation at the end of your deployment phase will be saved as the default deployment for that army’s next battle. Meaning no more carefully arranging your elves into a staunch line of spears–they just fall into place automatically.

I know, I can’t believe it either. But hey, let’s take a look at what else is coming:

Let’s start with the big ones. First up, the flying toggle is real. You can have flying units land (if they are able to, some units like Sky Lanterns cannot), so that they can, say, do more damage on a charge. Or battle in a hero’s aura. Or whatever other reason you might want for your flying units to touch the ground like mere mortals. They can fly back up, but will have to be out of combat for a few seconds before they can manage it.

The idle unit hotkey is another great change. At the press of a button you can find any unit that’s not engaged in combat or following out a movement order, so you can get those good-for-nothing grots back in there without worrying you’ve forgotten something terribly important in the heat of battle. Speaking of which, there are now a number of other hotkeys, including hotkeys for special abilities, hotkeys to toggle Guard/Skirmish/Fire-at-will modes, and more.

The UI has been overhauled as well, meaning that you can see “lazy health bars” that reflect damage done recently, allowing you to tell when a charge or spell or the like takes a big bite out of a unit. There’s a lot of improvements, all in all, you can see the full list here. But get excited, because Warhammer 3 just got a lot nicer place to live in.

Good luck generals
