The Varanite Mine set in Red Harvest looks amazing — so what about their new rule? Come take a look and find out.

Warcry: Red Harvest is a pretty impressive kit overall. The two Warbands are different and look great! I’m looking forward to both being added to the game. Games Workshop really knocked it out of the park with the style of both of those sets. However, it’s quite possible that the terrain set has stolen the show! It’s just a very impressive look battlescape set that tells a story as soon as you toss it on the tabletop.

Aside from the all the OSHA violations that this mine has going on, the Varanite itself is also highly mutagenic and dangerous. I don’t know how this mine stays in operation. Then again, maybe you’re fighting over an abandoned mine. Regardless, this stuff makes one heck of a set piece to fight over.

New Rules For The New Terrain

Here’s the thing: all this fancy new terrain actually has rules for use in your Warcry game, too. It’s not just for show. And like the graphic implies, when this machinery is active, it can get downright deadly!

That’s right, you can activate these slumbering hazards with a Double roll. If any fighters are caught on an active sluice they to take 2D6 damage! And even ones that are nearby take D6 damage, too. This Varanite stuff is DANGEROUS, people. And if you think the fighter that flipped the switch on the Delve Engine is safe, guess again:

Sure the odds are much lower but, if you get (un)lucky, that fighter can still end up taking 2D6 damage, too! Turning on that machinery is also a hazardous job.

Still – this is by far one of the most cinematic terrain sets GW has ever produced. It would be really impressive to see multiple sets combined and I’m sure some crazy hobbyists out there are already planning to do crazy awesome themed boards for this terrain. Even if you opt to not use the rules, the set itself is totally worth adding to any terrain collection.

What do you think of the rules for the terrain? Also, what type of hazard pay are these guys making to risk life and limb working the Varanite mine?
