Warhammer 40K: The Two New Heroes of Shadow Throne Examined
Shadow Throne is introducing two new heroes – the Adeptus Custodes Blade Champion and the Genestealer Cult Reductus Saboteur.
Games Workshop’s upcoming battle box is pitting the Genestealer Cult against the Adeptus Custodes on Holy Terra. This could be a huge deal in terms of potential storyline developments. But we’ll have to wait and see how that works out. In the meantime, we need to take a closer look at the two new heroes that are being introduced in the boxed set. Both are very different but add some interesting new twists to their respective armies.
Adeptus Custodes Blade Champion
“This phenomenal warrior has mastered three different fighting styles with which he can cut his way through every type of enemy with contemptuous ease. With six Attacks as standard, he can hit a whopping 12 times when using the Hurricanis technique!”
A master swordsman the Blade Champion lives up to his title. His different fighting techniques are designed to take on different targets and each one makes him the right tool for the job:
Depending on what you’re fighting, you’ve got a attack option that makes the most sense. Need to clear out some chaff? Hurricanis is the one you’re needing. Need to take on a monster or vehicle? Behemor will help to punch through the toughest of stats. Fighting a character? Go for Victus for victory!
Furthermore, it’s not just his attacks that give him the edge in close combat. He’s got some defensive abilities that will help out quite a bit:
If that wasn’t enough, he’s also got another skill that helps him get into combat and swing first, too:
Watch out for the Blade Champion – he’s going to get into combat and do some work.
Genestealer Cult Reductus Saboteur
“As you might expect for a demolitions specialist, the Reductus Saboteur is equipped with explosives of every description, from blasting and demolition charges to frag grenades. What’s more, before battle is joined, a Reductus Saboteur will saturate the battlefield with remote explosives that they can detonate from afar when the enemy draws near – and they’re especially effective against larger, more cumbersome targets.”
Sometimes, a little bit of explosives is exactly what you need. The Reductus Saboteur is a master at the craft of making things go “boom!” With her remote explosives, she’s ready to make the battlefield a big ol’crater:
This is a pretty unique attack thematically. I’m not 100% sure how the Reductus knows where to plant all those explosives but I’m going to roll with it. The attack itself has some serious potential to take out vehicles or monster units as the damage bumps up to 3. If you roll hot, that’s a possible 18 damage coming their way.
She can also leave behind some presents for the enemy, too. The Reductus Explosives are a nasty little surprise for anyone foolish enough to get too close. Perfect for some area denial tactics. Couple that with her abilities to hide and she’s one tough cookie to pin down and eliminate.
The war for the Shadow Throne is coming and Holy Terra swings in the balance. Which side will you choose?
There’s a Genestealer Patriarch on Terra. Oh man…
