Sometimes excessive bulk is the best thing you can have.

The newly updated battletome for the Maggotkin of Nurgle is up for preorder, and they’re bringing a lot of nasty new surprises to the battlefield with them, chief among them the Disease mechanic.

Several older models are getting some gnarly updates, and the big bad trio of Nurgle warlords known as the Glottkin are getting some of the best, adding extra power to an already murderous group of warriors. While they might be a little expensive, the incredible power they bring to the battlefield is far too great to deny, so here are the top three reasons why you should consider bringing along the loathsome lords of decay.

Updated Rules

The Glottkin were always capable of dishing out some truly horrifying levels of damage, which has only increased with their new form. While some of the attacks have decreased in number, they have enhanced accuracy and much higher damage potential. They are still a wizard, meaning they can throw out spells, and their signature spell has seen a decreased casting value, allowing you to pop an extra temporary wound onto a nearby unit, possibly saving them from death and netting you a critical objective.

And speaking of additional wounds, the Glottkin have an increased Wounds characteristic and more forgiving deterioration table, which means the Glottkin will be sticking around at max potential a lot longer to ruin your opponent’s day. Their Mountain of Loathsome Flesh and Horrific Opponent abilities in particular got a nasty upgrade, meaning these guys will be even more comfortable in the frontline than they were already.

Monster Heroes are King

The Glottkin are both a Monster and a Hero, meaning they’ll count for almost every scenario in the game and net you extra points to boot. They get all that plus the benefits of being a monster, so whatever objective they’re sitting on will probably be theirs the entire game, and your opponent will have to devote conscious effort to their removal.

They also have the Warmaster special rule, meaning they’ll count as a general in addition to whoever you pick. With their massive base and the increased command size, that means they’ll be able to throw command abilities a lot further across the battlefield. Speaking of nasty command abilities…

Blightkrieg

The Glottkin now come standard with a powerful new command ability called the Blightkrieg. At the end of the enemy movement phase, if both the Glottkin and another unit are within 12″ of an enemy, then they can charge.

This is huge, as not only does it potentially shut down deadly charges, but it will make your opponent think twice about positioning, as Redeploy and Unleash Hell won’t be applicable in this situation.

All your opponent can do if they make this critical misstep is hope you fail the charge. Plus, you can always use your OWN Redeploy from another hero or unit commander to get in close, then unleash the Blightkrieg from the Glottkin to bury your enemies in noxious filth.
