D&D: Every Book We Know Is Coming In 2022
With a new year just around the corner, let’s take a look at every D&D book we know is coming out in 2022.
We all know that time stopped having any meaning “last year” (as though 2020 wasn’t a decade ago). But with 2022 in sight, things are looking up. At least in the D&D world. Here’s a look at every D&D book we know is coming in 2022. We start off with the Rules Expansion Gift Set, due out January 25th, 2022.
Rules Expansion Gift Set – $169.95
- Includes fifth edition’s best-selling rules expansions Xanathar’s Guide to Everything, Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything, and Monsters of the Multiverse, along with a Dungeon Master’s screen together for the first time in a beautiful slip case.
- Includes the debut of Monsters of the Multiverse, a comprehensive resource for players and Dungeon Masters alike, containing over 30 updated player character races and a massive bestiary with over 250 redesigned monsters and stat blocks, all for use in any D&D world.
- Each of the three books and the Dungeon Master’s screen feature special foil covers, available only with this release.
- A perfect set for players and Dungeon Masters looking to expand their game with additional rules and character options.
We also know that Wizards of the Coast’s first (planned) release for 2022 is a Critical Role book. Call of the Netherdeep is the first official adventure set in the world of Exandria.
Critical Role: Call of the Netherdeep
The greed of mortals has awakened a powerful entity long thought destroyed. For eons, this mighty champion of the gods has been imprisoned in the darkest depths of Exandria. His name has been forgotten, as have his heroic deeds. Languishing in despair, he calls out for new heroes to save him.
Inspired by the campaigns of the hit series Critical Role, this adventure begins in the Wastes of Xhorhas and leads to the glimmering oasis-city of Ank’Harel on the continent of Marquet, and from there into a sunken realm of gloom, corruption, and sorrow known as the Netherdeep. Above it all, the red moon of Ruidus watches, twisting the fates of those who have the power to shape the course of history.
Critical Role: Call of the Netherdeep contains seven chapters of thrilling adventure, new creatures and magic items, and a poster map of Ank’Harel.
-
- First major adventure module within Critical Role’s world of Exandria, taking players from levels 3-12.
- Multi-continental story that spans the scarred Wastes of Xhorhas, introduces the continent of Marquet, and eventually plunges players into the Netherdeep—a terrifying cross between the Far Realm and the deep ocean.
- Bursting with lore and all new art depicting Exandria.
- Includes new magic items and creatures and introduces new rival NPCs.
According to Mercer, the new book will explore ideas and elements not yet seen in Exandria:
“Getting to bring a direct adventure book within Exandria to life is really such an exciting thing, especially exploring ideas and elements I’ve never been able to bring to a campaign myself yet. Working with such a talented team to develop and craft a tale like this is an absolute honor, and I cannot wait for folks to step into the unique mysteries and dark challenges that Call of the Netherdeep invites.”
New Setting Books
One of the first announcements we got about next year was, ironically, made in the middle of this year. We know that two new setting books are in the works for 2022:
@Wizards_DnD Settings Update: As I've mentioned on a couple of occasions, there are two more products that revive "classic" settings in production right now. (1/4)

Each of these products is pursuing a *different* format you've never seen before. And neither is "digital only;" these are new *print* formats. https://t.co/2otSszdcrl

These updates from head of D&D Ray Winninger reveal that two new books are coming to revive “classic” D&D settings. With recent Unearthed Arcana unveiling some spelljammer favorites, many are hoping to see D&D set sail for space. But all the usual favorites still apply. At any rate, there are two coming in 2022.
Critical Role’s Tal’Dorei Reborn
This one isn’t an official WotC release, as its being released through Critical Role’s publishing imprint, Darrington Press. But this is an update and expansion to the original Tal’dorei Campaign Setting.
Inside the book you’ll find:
- A guide to each major region of Tal’Dorei, with story hooks to fuel your campaign
- Expanded character options, including 9 subclasses and 5 backgrounds
- Magic items such as the Vestiges of Divergence, which are legendary artifacts that grow in power with their wielders
- Dozens of creatures, many featured in Critical Role’s livestreamed campaigns
- New lore and updated stat blocks for each member of Vox Machina
- A gorgeous 18”x24” foldout poster map
Happy Adventuring!
