Goatboy’s Warhammer 40K: New Year Competitive Resolutions

Goatboy here with my 2022 Warhammer 40K resolutions.

This last year I got back to playing games again.  I won more than I lost thru the events with going 4-2 in most ones I played.  I think I had a 2-2-1 at Alamo playing a very weird list I didn’t enjoy – but that is all part of the competitive nature of this game.  You can’t win them all and having fun is more important to me.  With that let’s talk about my latest goals for next year.

More Goats

Goal number one is playing Space Goats at least once this year.  I am currently planning on playing them for LVO as the chances to get the top 8 is very hard and I think I would rather have some fun in Vegas instead of worrying about match ups.  It has been a long time since I have been there and it would be nice to eat some good food, see some nonsense, and maybe win a few games.  It is also fun to bring out an old army and try to bring some Magic to my game.  I don’t expect to win but I know I will enjoy the beatings I get.

I’m CSM Curious

From there I think my plans are really dependent on if Chaos Space Marines come out with a new book or not.  If they don’t I have to decide between working on an Ork list or a Chaos Knight list.  Both have options and I have parts for all of it – depending on if Chaos Knights come out pretty quickly this next year.  I am leaning towards Orks as I got all the plastic pieces and like the scheme I have done – but we’ll see.  I’m going to try and stick with it a few events so I can actually get a handle on the army.  I noticed when I played Grey Knights in two events I did a lot better that second time around.  My new army jitters were ripped off and I made some ok decisions this time around.

I’m Going to Practice More

They do say practice makes you better and I think getting into that groove will be best for me.  This also means I need to play a few games before an event as well.  I got a good buddy locally that will throw an army at me and I need to take advantage of that a bit more.  Running thru some reps is always helpful and if you want to win more games than lose you should be doing the same thing too.  Being able to make split decisions quickly and not needing to rummage through a cheat sheet is a good thing.

Maybe not THAT fancy…

Fancy Display Board

I also want to make a decent looking display tray/board thing that might be able to fly with me.  This means working on building terrain/pieces that are part of my army without taking up a ton of space.  I don’t always get to drive to an event so it needs to look decent enough.  I am thinking utilizing some of my artistic skill to build a printed backboard or some kind of cool looking board to be placed on.  We’ll see as I think about it and figure out an army to play a few times before jumping to some other thing.

Gotta start keeping notes

Writing Up My Games

I wonder if writing more detailed game battle reports again might be worth wile too – if those are something people are interested in I will take better notes.  It is always something I like to do but sometimes get lost in the moment.  I feel having a better “diary” of the game – wins, loses, and nonsense – could be a good thing for  other players to see. I was always frustrated about reading some reports where the player never seemed to lose and always found those reports with what happened in a lose to be especially important.

I’m Ready for the New Year!

Alright this year is over and while it was a rough start it seems to be going better towards the end.  Let’s keep the train moving with competitive 4ok and the next year be full of new releases, new armies, and some fun stories to talk about with our friends.

~Tell me about your 40K resolutions.
