HAPPY NEW YEAR 2022!
Goodbye 2021, and let’s ring in the new year! I think we have all been waiting for this one a little bit extra this year.
Games Workshop in 2021
Games Workshop had quite the year all things considered. Despite the world wide delays and other issues they still managed to have an impressive number of releases. There are quite a few standouts for sure, Be’lakor comes to mind as well as the two dragon brothers. And as long as we’re talking about Age of Sigmar let’s not forget Kragnos, the rest of the Lumineth line, the Hedonites with Sigvald and Glutos, the Soulblight Gravelord’s relaunch, Lord Kroak, the new Kruleboyz, Stormcasts, the game changing Generals Handbook of 2021, AND the launch of AoS 3.0! It was a banging year for the Mortal Realms.

There’s more – so much more! On the 40k side we still had Be’lakor, a whole slew of Primaris Space Marine releases, the Necron Chronomancer and Flayed Ones, Beast Snagga Orks, the rest of the Adepta Sororitas showed up, a bunch of Codexes (although maybe not as many as we would have liked), the Black Templars, and the spearhead of the Genestealer Cults and Adeptus Custodes refresh. There were also a ton of new Combat Patrol Boxes and lots of new single miniatures associated with their codexes.
It almost worked out like that…
But that was last year! We can’t wait to see what Games Workshop has in store for 2022!
Dungeons and Dragons & RPGs in 2021
2021 was a big one for D&D. It’s hard to remember exactly where we were at January, but this was the first year to really run with the changes in Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything, which we got to see in action in Van Richten’s Guide to Ravenloft. This new setting book marked big promises for the future of D&D.
Aside from being one of my favorite D&D books of the year, it also served as a bridge for D&D’s future. This year, WotC let us know they’d be changing the game, and for the better. First, they told us that Video Games were a bold new direction for D&D, then we got wind of a TV series, create by the creator of John Wick.
But perhaps the biggest news of all came late in the year. And no, we’re not talking about the fact that WotC announced two new “classic setting” books. But rather, in 2024, a “new evolution” for D&D 5E is coming. When you start gossiping around phrases like backwards compatibility, you know something big is being. Call it 5.5E, maybe. Maybe it’s bigger. We’ll get a glimpse of how the wind is changing early next year with Mordenkainen Presents: Monsters of the Multiverse.
So, all in all, this year is full of changes, and we can’t wait to see where they’re headed next!

2021 was a banner year for Marvel. Disney+ brought us five fantastic shows that tie into the broader universe – WandaVision, The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, Loki, What If… ?, and Hawkeye. Plus a bunch of new characters thanks to Shang-Chi and Eternals and one of their highest-grossing movies ever – Spider-Man: No Way Home. And that’s going to continue into 2022 with multiple new movies and shows.
The good stuff wasn’t just limited to Marvel – after a long wait, we finally got Dune. Streaming gave us access to global projects like Squid Game, 30 Coins, and Hellbound. We got a host of new fantasy and sci-fi series set in all-new universes. DC put out its best movie since 2019’s Shazam: James Gunn’s Suicide Squad.
While we’ve seen some box office bombs and been disappointed more than a few times, this year offered a lot of fun, challenging, and scary entertainment on the screen. Here’s to 2022 being even better!
And that is something to celebrate!
