Michelle Yeoh Saves the Multiverse in ‘Everything Everywhere All at Once’
The minds behind Swiss Army Man are back with a bonkers fantasy movie starring powerhouse Michelle Yeoh fighting to save everyone.
The multiverse is collapsing, and only one person can save us all: Evelyn Wang. The mother and small business owner is the one Evelyn that must navigate all of the memories and acquire the skills of all of the versions of herself to keep everything from imploding.
It has that alternate universe made out of stuff you have around the house feel. Similar to Being John Malkovich, Colossal, and Sorry to Bother You, it’s familiar and not at the same time. Everything Everywhere All at Once is more than just a bizarre premise. There’s a story of a caring mother and a woman who feels she’s missing out on life stitched into the weirdness.
Add in Michelle Yeoh in the leading role, and I’m buying a ticket. I’ve been a fan for years – Yes, Madam! and the Super Cop series are some of my favorite classic martial arts movies. Her career has seen her take roles in action movies, dramas, and comedies. I cannot wait to see how this weird tale showcases her entire range.
The official synopsis vastly oversimplifies what’s going on here.
“An aging Chinese immigrant is swept up in an insane adventure, where she alone can save the world by exploring other universes connecting with the lives she could have led.”
Everything Everywhere All at Once is from Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert (aka Daniels). The cast is led by Michelle Yeoh and includes Ke Huy Quan, Stephanie Hsu, Jenny Slate, Harry Shum Jr., with James Hong and Jamie Lee Curtis.
Everything Everywhere All at Once arrives in theaters on March 25, 2022.
