It sure looks like the Chaos Space Marines are back and causing trouble in the next season. It’s time to go to War Zone Nachmund.

Games Workshop has a couple of announcements that are going to change up Warhammer 40,000 next year. It seems they are moving things to a more seasonal model similar to how Age of Sigmar works. And to kick things off they are taking us back to Vigilus and Nachmund.

New Seasons of Warhammer

“There’s a new concept coming to Warhammer 40,000 in 2022 – seasons. They’re a new way to explore the vast setting of the war-torn 41st Millennium in much greater detail.”

These seasons are set to last for 6 months at a time. Each season will focus on different parts of the Grimdark Universe as it’s a pretty big place to explore. We’ve already seen hints of this with the various other War Zones but it looks like we’re getting even more goodies to go along with these new seasons:

“Each season will be supported by the release of new miniatures, rules, and more – it’s an exciting time to be a Warhammer 40,000 fan.”

New minis and rules? I could get behind more miniatures for sure! The first season is taking us back to Vigilus by way of the Nachmund Gauntlet. You didn’t think the fighting was over there, did you?

It sounds like Games Workshop has quite a lot planned for this season as well. The new War Zone book will be like previous books such as the War Zone Octarius book. So you can expect:

  • New Army Rules
  • A new Army of Renown
  • A Codex Supplement
  • Legendary Missions
  • Crusade Rules
  • A Campaign system

That’s not all, either. Naturally there will be a Crusade book to go along with the campaign book to help you run everything. This Crusade book will feature “24 new missions, extra Requisitions, Agendas and Battle Traits, and a War of Faith campaign system that sees your army casting down false idols and their worshippers for greater rewards from your own deities.” Sounds fun!

This being a seasonal model Games Workshop is also including new Chapter Approved Missions and Points Values as well.

“The first season introduces a new Grand Tournament Mission pack, which provides the framework for the next six months of competitive play. There will be new missions, new secondary objectives, and updated points costs for the armies in Warhammer 40,000.”

Yep! Ideally, we’ll be expecting another update in 6 months after these launch for the competitive side of things. But these books are what we have to look forward to now. These changes will fit perfectly with the new Eldritch Omens boxed set coming and ALSO some more Kill Team on the way, too.

“Yes, the next Kill Team boxed set will also be set in the Nachmund Gauntlet, and includes two splendid new kill teams.”

So no matter what sized games you’re wanting to play in the 40k universe Games Workshop’s new season will have you covered. Let’s see what Chaos has planned in 2022!
