Warhammer 40K: The Blade Champion Is Coming To Challenge You
This Guardian of the Emperor doesn’t mess around. For the points cost, the Blade Champion will rock your enemies.
The biggest problem the Blade Champion is going to face is getting to combat. But one he does get ready for a whirlwind of death and destruction. We already took a look at some of his rules but today Games Workshop revealed his points. Point-for-Point, you’re getting a little something extra with this guy.
“The Adeptus Custodes are the guardians of the God-Emperor Himself, each a magnificent warrior with martial skills renowned across the Imperium and rightly feared by their enemies. To join the ranks of the Blade Champions is an honour beyond measure – one earned by defeating the mightiest foes in battle time and again.”
Clocking in at 110 points that’s actually on the cheaper end for the Adeptus Custodes. But then again, that’s part of the problem with a small, elite army — units are expensive! Anyhow, these Blade Champions aren’t just duelists looking to challenge the enemy commanders in single combat (although they are pretty good at killing single targets). They can even take on hordes of troops or threaten monsters and vehicles if they happen to get in range. It’s all about the right tool for the job.
A good defense is a strong offense, but sometimes a good defense is also a good defense! And this Swordsman has that to spare thanks to another ability:
Again, he’s great at taking on characters but he’s also good against those pesky chaff units. When even the best attackers miss him on 1-3s and you get to add 1 to his armor save in melee, he’s not going down in close combat easily. But that brings up his main drawback which is getting into combat in the first place, right? Thankfully, he DOES have something to help with that:
If you want to avoid getting into combat with the Blade Champion, you’re going to need to remember that long-bomb Heroic Intervention. While those are all skills the Blade Champion brings he’s also got those super Custodes stats to match. Plus he’s got leadership 11…so there’s that. But if he’s on par with a Shield Captain he’s quite the deal for the points.
If his stats are close to this then look out!
He’s Still A Custodes
Don’t forget all the OTHER army-wide abilities he’s also going to have access to as well. We’re talking about those fancy new Shield Host and Martial Ka’tahs rules he’ll have as well.
When you pair the Blade Champion with the right Shield Host and combine that with the right Martial Ka’tah at the same time, he’s going to be the embodiment of the Emperor’s Wrath for sure. Timing is going to be everything for this champion but if you manage to get it right then it’s going to be good night for his enemies!
The Emperor’s Golden Boys are going to have a new Hero to toss into the meat grinder. Only I think he might actually break the meat grinder before it takes him!
