Spider-Man is set to become the next massive franchise outside of the MCU. We’re left to wonder: will we get more Sony/Marvel crossovers?

Marvel executive Kevin Feige has confirmed that he and Sony producer Amy Pascal are already working on the next chapter in Spider-Man’s story. In an interview with the NYT, he promised there wouldn’t be a repeat of the fallout that happened between the two studios in 2019.

“Amy and I and Disney and Sony are talking about — yes, we’re actively beginning to develop where the story heads next, which I only say outright because I don’t want fans to go through any separation trauma like what happened after Far From Home. That will not be occurring this time.”

No Way Home made $587.2 million opening weekend. It’s now the third-biggest worldwide opening weekend ever. It comes in just behind Endgame and Infinity War– in a pandemic. It’s no surprise they want to make more.

Bigger than Spider-Man

And it’s not just another possible (the actor hasn’t confirmed anything) Tom Holland movie on the way. There’s a live-action Spider-Verse coming. A Spider-Verse that could have some interesting connections and faces we’ve never seen on screen.

If you’ve been watching the movies and the marketing, it’ll come as no surprise that Sony is aiming to build its own comic book movie empire (with a little help from Marvel). They’ve built up Venom as a viable live-action character over 2 movies and next year they’re adding Morbius. Both of those Spidey villains are going to have to take on their main nemesis at some point.

Sony has two more animated Spider-Verse movies starring Miles Morales on their slate right now, but no live action. What comes next is totally up in the air – beyond the fact that there will be more. There’s also some MCU/Sony crossover potential with characters like Blade.

As I’ve said in the past – the only limit is the audience’s threshold for comic-book movies and streaming shows. Ticket sales aren’t slowing down just yet.
