Anime: Most Anticipated Animes Of 2022
It looks like this will be a good year for anime. These are the highlights we’re most excited about from 2022’s animes.
2021 is officially over, and whether you let it go gracefully or waited until midnight to give it the stanky boot, a new year is here. And a new year means new anime! 2022 promises lots of new and returning favorites that we can all get excited about. Here’s some of what we’re looking most forward to.
Chainsaw Man
This is far from the first time that we’ve told you about Chainsaw Man, and I doubt it will be the last. It’s one of those manga that make you ask yourself, “How did this get published?” turned anime that will have us all asking “Ok but really, how?!”
Denji gets chainsaw powers and a job fighting devils for get-out-of-Yakuza-debt money, and if that sounds like the ramblings of a madwoman, you’re just going to have to tune in and see it for yourself. Also, there’s a very cute chainsaw dog.
Both weird and weirdly popular, Chainsaw Man is one of the most anticipated new animes of 2022. Whether it’s up your alley or not, you’re going to want to watch a least a little of Chainsaw Man, even if just to know what the absolutely bonkers buzz is about.
Tiger & Bunny Season 2
A whole bunch of animes are being continued or completed in 2022- My Hero Academia‘s sixth season, Attack on Titan‘s final episodes, Tokyo Mew Mew New, and Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War to name a few- but Tiger and Bunny may be the one I’m most excited about.
It takes place in a world where Super Heroes are real, but also a huge industry with celebrities, media coverage, marketing, etc. It’s a little like My Hero Academia, but instead of following kids going through school, Tiger and Bunny follows the grizzled nine-to-fivers and approaching-middle-age heroes who really should be thinking about retiring and spending more time with their kids. It’s hilarious, heartfelt, and if you too are on the wrong side of the my-back-always-hurts meridian, a little too relatable.
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners
Spunoff of 2021’s Cyberpunk 2077 and produced by Studio Trigger (Promare, Kill la Kill, and Star Wars Vision), Cyberpunk Edgerunners will bring us to Night City. Not much is know except the main character will try to become an “Edgerunner,” which sounds a lot like ‘shadowrunners’ and I am assuming is very similar until told otherwise.
Cyberpunk Edgerunners looks like it will take the flashy and colorful world of the game and mix it with Studio Trigger’s patented action/drama/comedy mix with a pastel pallet.
Spy x Family
The found family trope meets Mr. and Mrs. Smith meets usual anime wackiness with Spy X Family. Loid Forger (codename Twilight) is keeping undercover with his “perfect” family, but he doesn’t now his fake wife is an assassin and their adopted daughter is a mind reader. If you didn’t know to be looking for an action comedy spy thriller with heart that turns tropes on their ear, you are now. And you’ve already found it with Spy X Family!
What new anime are you looking forward to in 2022? Are any of our top picks on your watch list? What do you think should have made our list but didn’t? Let us know in the comments!
