MTG: A Puzzling Set Of Leaks To Kick Off The New Year
Over the last week, a set of four cards that purport to be from Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty surfaced. Come see for yourself.
Kamigawa Neon Dynastyis the first big set coming to Magic: the Gathering in 2022. And now that we’re officially in the year of three many twos, there’s some interesting things to dig into. The first is a relic from the past age. Last week, on Christmas day in fact, a leak of four cards from Neon Dynasty made the rounds in the usual places. We found them on Reddit.
As always, potential leaks like this could be elaborate fakes, though in this case, that seems like an awful lot of effort, owing to the condition of one of the cards. See for yourself:
As you can see, one of them looks like it’s seen some vintage, circa 1997 gameplay. Slamming lands and black lotuses down on the asphalt in the back of the schoolyard because you didn’t know that they would fund your empire one day yet. There are a few different theories as to the condition of these cards. They may have been salvaged from the trash after “printer errors” or have been picked up off of the card factory floor.
Whatever the reason, it seems like a lot of effort to crumple up a card, front and back. Though it could be done, so keep a grain of salt handy. At any rate, time will tell–and soon–whether these are the real deal.
Until then, that Rat Ninja is pretty sweet.
