RuneScape Is Coming To Tabletop With A New RPG From Steamforged Games
Jagex and Steamforged Games are teaming up to produce two different tabletop games for the classic MMORPG RuneScape.
In an age where MMOs are either vanishing or available now with an expanded free trial that lets you play through the entirety of A Realm Reborn and the award winning Heavensward expansion up to level 60 for free with no restrictions on playtime, it’s kind of incredible to see one from the elder days make it through.
So it is with RuneScape. RuneScape has been soldiering on since 2001. Still set in the world of Gielinor. Still full of a surprising number of players. Jagex has done the work to make RuneScape last.
Now, Jagex and Steamforged Games are teaming up to bring RuneScape to the tabletop. Together, these two will create a board game and a TTRPG both set in RuneScape. Per the announcement from Steamforged, we know that both games are set for a 2022 release.
The games will draw on adventures, characters, and locations from across RuneScape’s rich 21-year long history, with the board game taking between one to five players on quest-based campaigns through Gielinor.
And it looks like they’re digging into the full game for experience. It’s not just another fantasy adventure. You’re playing RuneScape with all that entails:
They will craft and upgrade equipment, upskill their characters, cook special recipes, engage with NPCs, and test their skills while exploring different regions of the world, with a variety of enticing side quests.
The TTRPG will [allow players to] build their own characters, explore Gielinor, and create unique and exciting quests.
Details are still a little sparse, however, Steamforged Games has a history of adapting video games for tabletop. From Monster Hunter: World to Dark Souls they’ve made a lot of games
The RuneScape RPG will, of course, use the 5th Edition ruleset.
Happy Adventuring
