Warhammer 40K: Kill Team Starter Set – A New Launching Point
Are you looking to dive into Warhammer 40,000: Kill Team? The new slimmed down starter set is a good place to start.
Games Workshop announced a new version of the Kill Team Starter set. It’s contents are looking very familiar as this is essentially the Octarious boxed set with less terrain. But before we get into it, take a look for yourself.
“Alongside a full complement of fantastic miniatures, the Starter Set contains everything you need to get stuck right in – from tokens and tools to a gameplay mat and scatter terrain. Plus, learn how to play with a streamlined 96-page Core Rules book, as well as a 56-page Recruit Edition book packed with background info and tutorial missions.”
A New Kill Team Starter
If you managed to get your hands on the Kill Team: Octarius Set then all of this should be very familiar. It’s the same two Kill Teams (Death Korps and Orks), plus all the game play extras you’ll need. The main things that are different are the core rule book is the smaller version and it doesn’t have the same terrain kits. That’s probably less daunting for new players even if it’s slightly less functional for actually playing games with.
On the flip side, if you just want to get the Octarius book or if you want to get your hands on the Terrain set, you can score those separately now. That’s not a bad thing either.
If you’re already a Kill Team player, the terrain set in particular is a great way to grow your collection. Besides, who DOESN’T want an ork terrain themed table to play on?! That’s just rad.
But back to the Starter Box. This one is going to come in cheaper than the Octarius box as well. It’s estimated to be around the $100 price point but we’ll have confirmation on that later this week. That’s half of what the Octarius boxed set costs — which makes sense. The terrain is removed!
The Kill Team Octarius box for comparison.
This new Starter Set is a exactly what it says: It’s a starter set. A cheaper point of entry and all the same great kill team models, core rules, dice, measuring devices, and enough terrain so you can play. This box is the one that’s going to stick around for a while for new players to check out.
Sorry veteran Kill Team players, this box ain’t for you…unless you just want more miniatures (because of course we all do).
