The Old World is already shaping up to be exciting, so I’m just hoping the trend continues.

For a lot of Age of Sigmar enthusiasts, the gateway game was Warhammer Fantasy. Combining Old World mythology with fantasy takes on real world civilizations, the game was a little too bloated for some gamers. However, for every naysayer, Fantasy has a diehard fan that loved the additional rules. In order to reach that group, GW announced the Old World, an expansion that will return us to Fantasy battles. At launch, they announced Cathay and Kislev as early factions, aligning with the release factions for Total War 3. However, there are still several defunct factions that fans want to see. Here are three Fantasy factions that I want to see in the Old World.

Tomb Kings

The mummy army of nightmares, the Tomb Kings were an undead army that stood AGAINST Nagash, actively working against his efforts. They were an incredible force, with their Lords giving their own skill and strength to nearby warriors and their spellcasters unleashing magic with unmatched skill. They were a gorgeous army, combining deadly constructs with ranks of undead warriors and more chariots than you could shake a khopesh at. Their absence from AoS was a huge let down, so here’s hoping they make their triumphant return in Old World.

Bretonnia

This one has already been confirmed by Games Workshop, and it’s going to be exciting. Where the Tomb Kings were all about chariots, the Bretonnian claim to fame was their knightly orders. Deadly Paladins and noble Questing Knights rode to battle alongside the blessed Grail Knights. On the ground, the army was backed up by conscripted peasants wielding crude bows and weapons, and they brought portable trebuchets to rain death on their enemies. They even had a unique style of charging known as the Lance formation, making them even deadlier on the charge. I can’t wait to get the horse boys back on the battlefield, and crush my enemies beneath armored hooves.

Wood Elves

Another faction that has been loosely confirmed by GW, the Wood Elves of Athel Loren are a devastating force. They were one of my top three armies back in Fantasy, and for good reason; when it came to archery, no one could match their skill. I hope that their presence in the Old World is the way it was in Fantasy, with enchanted bows and angry tree spirits. I’d especially love to see a reimagining of Orion, since he was one of my favorite Wood Elf models. The forests of the Old World need protecting, and there’s no one better equipped for the job.
