Anime: Five Bingeworthy Romantic Animes To Watch This Valentines Day
If you’re looking for a romantic anime or five to binge this Valentine’s Day, these shows will have you feeling the warm fuzzies.
Love Is Hard For An Otaku
Do you ever watch an anime and feel a little bit personally-called-out? Narumi Momose is a normal, respectable woman working a normal and respectable office job.
But she has a shameful secret– she’s an otaku. Her friend from middle schools, Hirotaka Nifuji, blows her secret, but it turns out that everything is okay and the entire group are also secret nerds. An awkward romance buds between Narumi and Hirotaka in a show that’s very cute and nerdy in a way that may be a bit too relatable.
It’s also an anime about adults instead of the usual middle and high school student stories. Everything about this is refreshing and a lot of fun and if you’re looking for a show that’s not too much to binge around Valentine’s Day, Love Is Hard For An Otaku may just be perfect.
His And Her Circumstances
I feel so incredibly nostalgic about Kare Kano or His and Her Circumstances. More than twenty years old by this point, it’s bordering on that “classic anime” line. But I think you’ll agree that it holds up.
Yukino Miyazawa is the smartest, most popular, most athletic freshman girl in her school. She is getting the top scores in all of her classes, damnit. Until Sichiro Arima comes on the scene and he just may be more perfect than her.
Turns out, they’re both secret disasters who strive for outward perfection. The show is mostly adorable with some surprisingly dark moments mixed in.
Honey and Clover
If you want an anime where the college AU is just the main story, Honey and Clover is for you. Yuuta Takemoto is a sophomore at an arts college, sharing a cheap apartment. At his college, he meets the talented Hagumi Hanamoto and falls in love immediately.
Honey and Clover is cute and relatable and more than anything else, really surprisingly good. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll do a little soul searching and learn a thing or two about yourself. But most importantly you’ll watch a genuinely good show.
My Love Story!!
Takeo Gouda is a mountain of a high school freshman with a heart of a teddy bear. Unfortunately his stature scares off most girls… as well as his more classically handsome friends stealing the hearts of anyone he’s ever liked.
This doesn’t stop him from falling for Rinko Yamato, though. Of course, Takeo assumes she’s interested in his friend and decides to help set them up even while pining for a love story of his own. You know what more stories should have? Genuinely nice people who do things for the people they care about.
My Love Story!! is one of the cutest shows you could hope to watch, and you’ll be rooting for Takeo by the time episode one is over.
Your Lie In April
Kousei Arima is a piano prodigy, but after the death of his mother he spirals until he can’t play at all. Two years later, violinist, Kaori Miyazona, helps him bring music back into his life again.
Your Lie in April is a masterpiece of layers and character development, and it may even make you want to listen to classical music a little more. It’s heart-warming and romantic anime that’s perfect for this time of year.
