Forging a Rusted Drill Bit into a Beautiful Gold Kunai

Watch as a metalsmith Random Hands turns scrap metal into beautiful kunai – the versatile Japanese tool.
The kunai started as a masonry and gardening tool like a spade. Its availability and easily sharpened edges made it a natural choice for an edged weapon. When in the hands of a skilled martial artist the kunai is elevated to a multi-function weapon. Ninjas used them to scale and gouge holes in walls, as well.
It can be used as a hand weapon…
Or as a distance weapon when attached to rope (also known as a rope dart)…

Blacksmith Random Hands transforms rusty scrap metal into tools and beautiful weapons. In these videos, he forges two versions of Japanese kunai out of a drill bit and a coil spring. Finishing one-off with 24k gold plating.
The plating process is the most interesting part of creating this kunai. The expertly shaped and sharpened steel is put into a series of charged chemical baths to get the final look. In the end, it weighs about 11.5 ounces (328 Grams) and with sharpened edges is deadly as well as beautiful.
