‘The Book of Boba Fett’ Ep. 7 – ‘In the Name of Honor’
The Book of Boba Fett finale is here, and it’s time for the all-out final intergalactic gang war we’re all been waiting for.
This breakdown will be loaded with spoilers. If you haven’t seen the episode yet find something else to read until you’ve had a chance to catch up.
It’s been pretty clear that The Book of Boba Fett wasn’t going to be like other shows in the Star Wars franchise. There was more exposition than it needed, sometimes it felt like it dragged, and sometimes it was hard to not wonder when they were going to get to the good part.
Of course, this didn’t stop many of us from enjoying it– I thought it was an enjoyable show over all and I had a great time watching. But most of it wasn’t quite what we thought we were in for.
Episode 7, on the other hand, was exactly what we all thought we’d be in for.
Book of Boba Fett Season Finale Setup
It feels like we had six episodes of set up, so it was refreshing when this episode was relatively light on it.
Team Boba Fett is surveying the burned wreckage of what used to be The Sanctuary. The crew seems to understand that this means all out war and that it was inevitable.
But Boba doesn’t want to be the kingpin of a pile of rubble or for people to get killed unnecessarily. He’d like for the Pykes to just… y’know… leave. Unfortunately this isn’t realistic so they form a plan to deal with the Pykes.
After all, all of the other crime bosses promised to stay out of it and they wouldn’t break their promises. Spoiler alert, they will break their promises in about five minutes.
At the same time the Mayor, Cad Bane, and the Pykes are are having a chat about their next moves. The mayor doesn’t want Mos Espa destroyed either, but the Pykes don’t care as long as their spice get to move. And Cad Bane doesn’t care as long as the check clears.
Bane goes to have a chat with Boba about throwing in the towel. He lets it slip that it was the Pykes that killed his Tusken family, not bikers. Oh, and that Freetown wasn’t coming because Vanth was dead.
This scene almost turns into a fire fight, but Fennec Shand talks Boba out of it. She’d rather they fight on their own terms; not Bane’s.
Meanwhile, an X-wing lands outside Peli Motto’s shop. She’s ready to attempt a charm check against the local rangers, but it turns out to be R2-D2 dropping off Grogu.
The little guy (and his fancy beskar shirt) dropped out of Jedi school. I guess Luke had to stay behind to supervise the droids building his temple.
The War
Unsurprisingly, every family in Mos Espa turns on Boba and team Fett’s plan quickly hits a series of snags. The cool teens are cornered, Krrsantan is overtaken by Trandoshans.
Din and Boba get overwhelmed with numbers despite being in the best form we’ve seen from them all season. Luckily Fennec is there to snipe save the day. She then hops on a speeder to finds the Mayor and Pyke leader and take care of the problem at its source.
From there, the action sequences are honestly some of the most fun Star Wars you could hope to watch and the most enjoyable minutes in The Book of Boba Fett to date. The people of Freetown drive a tank into Mos Espa, inspired to join in the fight because the Pykes messed with their Marshal.
Boba rides a rancor into town. There are almost unstoppable scorpenek droids gunning down everything in their path. Krrsantan comes back, throwing guys into other guys (that’s what you get for bringing a blaster to a Wookiee fight).
Peli Motto eventually shows up with some of her pit droids and Grogu. Because every warzone needs a baby.
There are sweet moments between Din and Grogu. Not to mention the unparalleled badassary as Boba finally earns the respect of everyone in Mos Espa by taking out Pykes with a Rancor. And don’t forget a couple of fun one-liners.
There was a short conversation between Din and Boba that was so nice yet so awkward that I was half waiting for Din to accidentally call Boba “Dad”. And it’s hard to not respect the cool teens’ commitment to their aesthetic as they literally battle for their lives.
If you love Star Wars because it’s fun and were wondering when The Book of Boba Fett was going to become that, this is the episode you’ve been waiting for.
Book of Boba Fett finale: The Wrap Up
There are three main wins at the end of this episode.
We’re finally given the Boba Fett vs. Cad Bane showdown we were promised so long ago in animated form. But it goes a little differently.
Cad eggs Boba on for a bit and then lets loose some blaster fire that would have easily taken out anyone not wearing beskar armor. Boba’s more-or-less fine, but consistently knocked prone while Bane makes fun of him in his folksy sort of way.
It’s clear that Boba is out-blastered, but not out-gaffi-sticked. Bane is off of his feet and stabbed with the pointy end almost before he was able to see that Boba had a secret weapon. It was a fitting end to one of our favorite galactic villains.
Will we get more of Cad Bane in live action? Perhaps in his younger years? I really hope so.
Meanwhile, the rancor is doing a bit of a rampage. It only listens to Boba and is unhappy to have people shooting at it. Separated from its master, it’s destroying Mos Espa.
Din makes an honest effort to trick it and grab the reins like Boba, but the the rancor knows and throws him. In the end, Grogu calms the rancor into napping and then takes an adorable little nap himself.
The Pykes and Mayor aren’t happy with how things have progressed. The city is in shambles, the other families are in hot water for turning on Boba, and the Pykes no longer think Tatooine will be “hospitable” for moving spice. In the end, none of this matters too much. Fennec finally makes it over to them, kills everyone, and quietly leaves.
In the aftermath of the battle, Boba and Fennec walk through town. He has the respect of the people of Mos Espa and Boba is now receiving gifts and bows from the citizens.
But he doesn’t know if he wants this power after all. Fennec asks who should have it if not then, but he question is never answered. The whole crew seems happy and safe for the moment.
Mid-Credit Scene
And of course, there is a mid-credits scene. Cobb Vanth is sleeping away in the bacta tank in Jabba’s Boba’s palace. The Modder looks like he’s about to get to work.
I was personally expecting Vanth to show up hurt-but-okay during the fight. So, it’s nice to get confirmation that he could be back in future shows or movies.
