Elden Ring is one of the most hotly-anticipated titles of 2022. So much so, that up until about six months ago, nobody believed it was coming out. The stories you’d hear about the game were like something out of a gamer’s fever dream, circa 2013. Yeah, it’s a game designed by the Hidetaka but with like story and worldbuilding from George R.R. Martin. It’s the biggest most open world. Mounted combat as far as the eye can see.
And yet. Somehow, the game managed to live up to expectations. At least according to the early access reviews pouring in. It’s hard to find one that’s exclusively critical of the game. In fact, most people call Elden Ring a masterpiece of open world gameplay. Preparing for launch day, I’ve watched through VaatiyVidya’s lore primer for the good good feels, and an IronPineapple video showing off the combat moves it’ll take me two months to nail down.
