Warhammer 40K: Aeldari Are Getting A New Combat Patrol Box
The Aeldari Combat Patrol Box will keep you engaged in every phase of the game. This one looks like a solid option.
When it comes to Combat Patrol boxes I have a very simple rating system. Pass, “Peat”, or Repeat. Pass means you can probably skip on this one. “Peat” means you might want to snag a copy — but just “A” copy. And Repeat means you’re probably going to want to get more than one of these boxes.
Now that the Aeldari are getting a new Combat Patrol Box we can take a close look at the contents and figure out which rating to give it.
“The greatest strength of Combat Patrol: Aeldari is its flexibility. Assemble your infantry as Storm Guardians and give the Wraithlord a ghostglaive to punch right through fortified enemy lines, or muster a squad of Guardian Defenders with a mobile Heavy Weapons Platform to hold the ground claimed by your blistering bikers.”
What’s In The Box?
1x Farseer
1x Wraithlord
1x Guardian Squad (10 Guardians with a Weapon Platform)
6x Windrider Jetbikes
That’s….actually a pretty solid mix of stuff. Doubly so if you were wanting to start a new Saim-Hann army. The Combat Patrol starts with a Farseer who’s going to be a solid HQ option going into things. Farseers are good for psychic shenanigans and having one lead this patrol is a solid option.
The core of the army is the Guardians which you can build as the classic Defenders or if you want to get more aggressive as Storm Guardians. Either option can fill in a variety of roles so there’s not really a bad choice there. All depends on how you want to construct the larger army.
The “Speed” portion of this box comes in the form of the six Windrider Jetbikes. With the upgrades to Shuriken weapons and the option to load up some big guns on these bikes these will do some work in your army. The fact that you get 6 in one box is kind of nice, too.
For the heavy-hitting the Combat Patrol brings in a Wraithlord. I’m a little conflicted about this piece of the box only because it’s an older model. That said, the Wraith Constructs got a bit of buff in the new codex so I’m actually looking forward to seeing what they can do.
If the Wraithlord can tank as well as I’m hoping then you’ve got a very well rounded box.
The Verdict?
This one is certainly NOT a Pass. It’s worth getting for sure. I’m just going back and forth between Peat and Repeat. For vets, this box does contain a bunch of new miniatures and it’s probably going to be cheaper than purchasing them all solo. So, if you already had an Aeldari army, this one is a one-box sort of purchase. It’s a strong Peat.
For new players or players looking to start an entire Aeldari army this box is a Repeat for sure. Mainly if you want to run a Saim-Hann list, but also just because you’ll get a fantastic core to a collection. You’ll find use for just about everything in the box. The only “issue” is that after 12 jetbikes, you’re kind of leaning hard into playing Saim-Hann.
Two or more Farseers isn’t bad…but you’ve got other HQ options that might be worth looking at.
Personally, if I was starting a new army, I’d get two and stop there. For a Combat Patrol it’s a pretty strong box — it’s got a bunch of more “generic” options that can really fit into any army. Alternatively you can buy a couple and go hard into the Windrider builds.
