Warhammer 40K: Aeldari ‘Battle Focus’ Gets A Rework
When it comes to running and gunning the Aeldari have had lots of practice. You could say they have a certain Battle Focus.
The Aeldari have had lots and lots of practice going to war. From their many temples from various paths they have mastered combat over the course of many human lifetimes. That means when they do go to war they have some impressive skills at their disposal. One of those skills is their Asuryani Battle Focus.
“When the Asuryani go to war, they enter a waking trance that allows them to strike with surgical accuracy and escape before they face reprisal.”
It’s changed up a bit from the previous incarnations. Using Battle Focus correctly is going to be key to getting the job done with the Craftworld Aeldari. The concept is pretty simple — get in range, blast with your Assault Weapons, and then get out before the enemy can strike back.
Strike Hard And Don’t Get Hit Back
The first part of the rule allows for you to Advance and still fire Assault or Pistol weapons with virtually no penalty. You count as remaining stationary. So all those Shuriken Catapults and Fusion Guns will get to unload quite accurately. And don’t forget about those mean little Shuriken Pistols either. They just might surprise you with the new Shuriken rule.
The second part of the Battle Focus ability allows for them to get another move of D6″ after firing. This only applies if you didn’t Advance or Fell Back for the unit however. You also can’t use this move to jump into a transport and you can’t use this move to get closer to declare a charge.
It’s going to be very interesting to see if units like the Dark Reapers are going to be able to take advantage of this rule. Will they be able to move up, fire, and then Battle Focus back? The second part of the rule doesn’t have any restrictions on the type of weapon you attacked with. So if they come with that rule, I don’t see what would prevent them from hopping back into cover. Same with those new Jetbikes…
Again, all of this only applies if these units come with the Battle Focus trait. I think it’s a pretty safe bet. But I’m going to wait to see those datasheets before I start building lists around this concept.
