Warhammer 40K: Aeldari Stratagems Reveal – 8 More To Look Out For
Games Workshop is showing off 8 more Aeldari Stratagems from the upcoming Codex. You’re going to want to watch out for these on the tabletop!
Nobody like that “Gotcha” moment to be pulled on them in tabletop wargames. The best way to avoid getting surprised is to be aware of what the other army can do. With that in mind, Games Workshop just dropped 8 stratagems from Codex Aeldari and it’s going to be a good idea to read up on them before you play against the Aeldari. Let’s take a look at each one and why it deserves a “heads-up” notice.
This one is for Harlequin units that aren’t in Engagement Range of an enemy unit. This Stratagem allows the to hop right back in the webway (aka Strategic Reserves). That could get them from one spot to another in about a turn. Don’t let the clown car sneak off and surprise you!
Dire Avengers get their own Stratagem and this one allows them to fire AGAIN. But only if they are under their starting strength. To be honest, this is kind of an odd one as it costs 2CP and also requires the unit to have taken at least one loss. Seems a little overcosted but Dire Avengers can pump out the shots now…
Another Harlequin Stratagem. This one costs 3CP and allows a Harlequins Troupe unit to fight again. If they really need to mop-up before the next turn starts don’t be shocked if this expensive stratagem gets used.
If you kill a Phoenix Lord there is an option for the Aeldari player to attempt to bring it back. They have to spend a CP and roll a 4+ to bring it back with D3 wounds remaining. Seeing as how much of a pain they can be to kill the first time this one could be clutch.
It’s another Harlequin stratagem but this time for the Death Jesters. This one prevents a unit from using the Insane Bravery Stratagem. It also causes a unit to be unable to re-roll a Morale Test. Apparently Space Marines might not know fear, but a good mocking laugh will make them feel shame.
Did you manage to take out the Avatar of Khaine in close combat?! Good for you. Now get prepared for it to hit back with even more attacks before the model is removed from combat.
The Aeldari don’t just shoot mindbullets. They can call in an Eldritch Storm! This is a funky ability that really relies on multiple Farseers in the army. In short, it’s a way to pick a point on the tabletop and that the Farseers are within 24″ of and cause a bunch of Mortal Wounds to units nearby. It could be pretty effective if used wisely. And since it’s 3Cp, you know the Aeldari player is going to try and set that up so hopefully you’ll see it coming.
The old Shield Discharge. It’s an oldie but goody. This version is different than you might remember it though. It’s no longer an actual “shooting” attack. The discharge now prevents the target unit from using Overwatch or Set to Defend. It also pegs the unit with a -1 to hit penalty until the end of the turn.
So Many Stratagems
This is just the tip of the iceberg. There are a lot more stratagems in the book. How many? Let’s see what GW says:
“And there are 38 more Stratagems in the book! Make sure that you pre-order the new Aeldari codex (and a set of Datacards so that you can easily keep track of your Stratagems) from tomorrow. “
Yeah…that’s a lot. One of those card packs is actually sounding pretty nice about now. Have fun keeping them all straight!
SOOOO many stratagems!
