These Guardians didn’t just get a new plastic kit. Get ready for some upgrades for the warriors-citizens of the Aeldari!

The backbone of the Aeldari army are the Guardians. These are the everyday Aeldari people that take up arms in defence of their Craftworlds and way of life. When you’ve lived many human lifetimes it’s not a surprise that you might be a combat veteran and also a master chef. These warrior-citizens aren’t to be taken lightly on the field — especially now that they are getting some fancy new rules, too.

“Aeldari seldom do things by halves – despite being a militia, each Guardian is a highly trained match for the most elite of the Imperium’s soldiers. The upcoming Codex: Aeldari gives them the boost they need to put on their war face and go toe-to-toe with the galaxy’s threats.”

Eyes Up, Guardian

For starters, let’s check out the new Aeldari Guardian statline:

These new Guardians are still quick on their feet but have an improved 4+ armor save now. And yes, they are still getting access to the new Battle Focus on top of that, too.

Furthermore, their trusty Shuriken Catapults just got deadlier to boot. It seems like everything is heading that direction in 9th edition!

We’ve already talked about it before but the Shuriken keyword is going to make these weapons very effective on the tabletop.

Still, The Wall Stands

“Guardian Defenders usually accompany a Heavy Weapon Platform armed with powerful ordnance, and new rules make it easier than ever to put these floating death-dealers to work. Alas, the close combat specialist Storm Guardians were left without a hovering battlefield buddy… until now.”

These floating platforms are going to be a lot more effective at keeping your guardians alive. The trade off is that you’ll lose the long range, heavy-hitting weapon option in the unit. But sometime you need your Guardians to be the wall that doesn’t move. The new Serpent Shield option is going to help them do just that. That should play nicely with the fact that they are getting some extra boosts to hold those objectives.

Getting into shooting range of Guardian Defenders is going to be like trying to grab a porcupine. And when those Storm Guardians run out to take an objective they just might surprise their target with the volume of hits they are going to get. And if that’s not good enough the Guardians of Ulthwé can also get yet another boost from a Stratagem as well:

Don’t underestimate the determination of a dwindling race. These Guardians are ready to handle anything that gets thrown their way.

Whether you’ve wanted it or not, you’ve stepped into a war with the Aeldari from their Craftworlds.
