Warhammer 40K: Phoenix Lords Lead Your Aeldari Warhosts To Glory
Or at least to the objectives and allow them to hold them. Let’s take a closer look at what the Phoenix Lords will do in the new codex.
Games Workshop teased us yesterday that the Phoenix Lords would be able to better support their Aspect Warriors. Today, they are showing us how a character like Maugan Ra will actually help out his Dark Reapers on the field.
“Phoenix Lords are the legendary Aeldari who (mostly) founded the Aspect Shrines dedicated to the different ways in which Khaine, the god of war, waged his crusades. Those Aeldari who walk the Path of the Warrior choose to specialise in particular aspects of combat by joining these shrines and becoming Aspect Warriors.”
Phoenix Lord Leadership
When Maugan Ra is on the tabletop he’s going to provide an aura bonus to friendly Dark Reaper units. They get a +2 Leadership boost and, perhaps more importantly, they gain the Objective Secured ability. This means that your Dark Reapers can camp those objectives with the best of them. With their fancy footwork, they can dance around the objective all day and keep in your control.
But it’s not just Maugan Ra who’s got an ability like this. All of the Phoenix Lords are going to be able to buff their respective aspect. GW is being a little cage about how exactly these auras will work but they did give us some high level news.
- Asurmen’s buff will allow Dire Avengers to “advance to the midfield, merrily cutting down foes with their Avenger shuriken catapults before claiming an objective.“
- Baharroth and the Swooping Hawks sound like they are going to get to drop into the enemy’s territory and claim some objectives.
- Karandras with the Striking Scorpions will be able to “ambush unsuspecting opponents before claiming an objective.“
It sure sounds like these elite Aspect Warriors are going to be able to get Objective Secured from their Phoenix Lords. And it’s not just those auras. While not all the Phoenix Lords might have gotten new models (yet) they are getting a stat boost to help.
GW also said “ Jain Zar leading a group of Howling Banshees is almost unstoppable” – not sure what that could mean but it doesn’t sound good for her enemies!
It will be interesting to see what other buffs the Phoenix Lords get and if those changes will make them worth taking to the tabletop.
What do you think of these updates to these Legendary Heroes of the Aeldari?
