Warhammer 40K: So…Where’s The 40K Roadmap?
Maybe we’re just being impatient but that doesn’t mean we’re not curious. Where’s the 40k Roadmap for 2022?
Right at the tail end of January we got a Roadmap for Warhammer: Age of Sigmar. That’s fantastic. We also know that the next two codexes coming out thanks to the LVO 2022 and subsequent announcements. It’s the Aeldari book and then after that is the Tyranid book.
That said, it’s been about a week since we got the AoS Roadmap and I’m starting to wonder if Games Workshop is going to produce one for 40k or not. Yes, we have a list of pre-orders coming this weekend already. What we don’t have is an Aeldari Codex or any of the models for them. I think folks are assuming they are going to be later this month — which kind of makes sense. We’ve also got a bunch of new stuff coming for the other side games like Kill Team and Necromunda.
On top of those releases (which we don’t even have solid timelines for) we also have a bunch of other teasers and models coming to the various Warhammer Systems. From the GW teaser video we’ve gotten most of these models revealed already:
However, we’re still waiting for confirmations for a few of them:
Maybe those are also on deck for a release. I personally find it a little odd that we’re also getting Eldritch Omens which features the Aeldari vs Chaos along with a codex for only one of those factions. Where’s the Chaos book? That’s got to be on the way soon, right?
Underpromise And Overdeliver
If I had to guess I think that GW is being a little gun shy about releasing a roadmap for 40k because of the delays they experienced from late last year. That roadmap fell through at the end of the year and the Custodes and GSC codexes/releases got shifted back. It appears like that ripple effect has been working its way through the start of this year as well. I’m not privy to GW’s logistics or production schedules but it’s gotta be related to all those delays. And hey, the WORLD is still struggling to get back to normal — so I get it.
That said you’d think by now they would have released some vague road map for 40k. I mean, the AoS version just had the seasons for reference – not anything as specific as the months.
I really think this is all fans are looking for. They know that GW has a plan for releases. But seeing it published is just reassuring that stuff is coming and that their army didn’t get forgotten about. We’ve still got a handful of codexes left for 40k 9th edition. That’s what we’re all wanting to see.
Why do you think GW is holding back on announcing a 40k roadmap for 2022?
