Warhammer 40K: We’re Hoping For More Plastic Aeldari In The Future
Here’s how we would release more Plastic Aeldari kits down the road. And it doesn’t take a new codex to do it!
So we’re pretty confident that Games Workshop is going to be done with the Aeldari for a while after this release. They are getting a ton of new kits but there are still quite a few models that need to get the plastic treatment. So we don’t think we’re going to see any more surprise Aeldari plastics any time soon.
However, if we were GW and wanted to update the range in the not-too distant future without a codex update, we have a plan. The best part is that Games Workshop has done it before and could do it again.
A New Phoenix Lord And Aspect Warrior Release
It wouldn’t be crazy difficult for Games Workshop to create another boxed set featuring a new Phoenix Lord Model and their Aspect Warriors. They already did that with Blood of the Phoenix. That was when Jain-Zar got a new model along with the new Howling Banshees. Also Drazhar and the Incubi (which is basically the exact same idea). Aside from the actual design of the models and kits this is really just a rehashing of the same idea. I think the hardest part is picking a Phoenix Lord…
What if you wanted to get super crazy and really get the fans hyped-up? You’d go with the Warp Spiders. Why? Because they could introduce a completely new Phoenix Lord model and update those poor, poor Warp Spiders at the same time.
In case you didn’t know, the Warp Spiders don’t have a Phoenix Lord at all. There are rumors of who that Phoenix Lord could be. And that could actually be a really amazing story beat for Games Workshop to tread down at a later date. Imagine a new Battlebox campaign that was all about the Aeldari finding the lost Phoenix Lord and some ancient foe trying to stop them from awakening it. This foe could be Necrons or Slaanesh Daemons or Chaos Marines. Or Space Marines because we gotta sell more Space Marines, right?
Whatever the foe, the concept would work with any of the current finecast Phoenix Lords and their respective finecast Aspect Warriors. Or, if GW just wanted to do it quick, they could do Asurmen and the existing Dire Avengers (who are in plastic). Personally, I’d have mixed feelings about that. On one hand, yes Asurmen needs a new model. On the other hand, I’d also like to see new Dire Avengers — especially since the new Guardian models turned out so good.
Corsair Raiders
Another option could be a Battlebox featuring Prince Yriel and some new Corsair units. While Kill Team is introducing the first batch of Corsair plastics, another battlebox could be a way for Game Workshop to expand those options and give the Corsairs more of a range for a future Aeldari Army sub-faction. However, this would require a Codex update and we were looking to avoid that, right? So…what if we just got a new Yriel Miniature in plastic along with the existing Corsairs in a new Battlebox?
I mean, I know the Kill Team box is featuring them soon — but it could still work at a later date. Just tossing that out there.
The point is that Games Workshop has already used this Battlebox concept as a way to update model ranges in the past without needing to completely update a codex. It’s a way for them to slide in some new models for existing units and spruce up the miniatures line at the same time. Because the Aeldari are getting a new codex and a ton of new kits now doesn’t mean they wouldn’t be good candidates for a future Battlebox release with new plastic miniatures. They have the perfect combos of characters and units to work with, too.
If you had to choose, which Phoenix Lord and Aspect Warriors would you pick for a new Battlebox?
