Critical Role Turns 7 – Celebrates With A Return To The Big Screen
With a 7th anniversary spectacular in the works, Critical Role has big, cinematic plans for the March 17th septennial broadcast.
Critical Role announced their big plans for the livestreamed campaign’s upcoming 7th anniversary today. And those plans involve the silver screen! Critical Role partners once more with Cinemark to bring the epic highs and lows and dick jokes and ball jokes and butthole jokes of Critical Role to a movie theater near you.
As long as you live near one of the fifty-five theatres nationwide (or three in Brazil) that will be taking part in the live simulcast on March 17th, 2022. The date marks seven years since the flagship show premiered on Geek & Sundry. And what a journey it’s been for both the show and D&D in the meantime.
As the popularity of Critical Role surged, so too did D&D. Livestreamed games became sort of the norm, with Critical Role casting an almost D&D-sized shadow over the rest of ’em. After all, Critical Role is probably still the highest-paid streamer on Twitch, by a mile.
There’s no questioning the success of the campaign. And though the game began as “just a group of friends playing D&D” there’s no denying the burgeoning empire the company has since spun into. From a single game, Critical Role grew into multiple shows, a publishing imprint, Darrington Press, and with the success of Vox Machina, it feels like the sky’s the limit.
