DC’s film delays have shifted premieres for virtually every film slated for an upcoming release. But it’s not all bad news!

Today, several DC productions announced the shifting of release dates, meaning fans will have to wait even longer for some of their new favorites to hit the screen. Just on the heels of The Batman‘s box-office success, DC’s next live-action release, Black Adam, has been pushed from a summer release to the fall.

Before you pull out your handkerchief for a good, snotty cry, this news comes with a silver lining. Shazam! Fury of the Gods is moving from June 2023 to December 2022. It’s a holiday miracle!

Black Adam

Originally scheduled to come out almost a year before Shazam 2, the Black Adam origin story has been pushed from July 29th to October 21st of this year. Three months doesn’t seem like too long to wait, especially considering how much closer the Black Adam and Shazam movies will come out now.

DC’s new animated feature League of Super-Pets has also been slightly postponed. The film was set to come out on May 20th, but will now be taking Black Adam‘s former screening date, July 29th. Who doesn’t love a good game of musical theater-chairs?

Shazam! Fury of the Gods

Pardon me for gloating, but I’m okay with waiting for all the rest of these movies if it means I get to see Shazam! Fury of the Gods in 2022. The second installment of one of my personal favorite DCEU movies will come out 7 months earlier than anticipated on December 12th, 2022. Since the first Shazam! is now one of my favorite holiday movies, it feels perfect for its sequel to premiere at the same time of year – even if it’s not officially a Christmas movie.

The Flash

Of course, the biggest news for the overall DCEU is the delay of Ezra Miller’s The Flash movie. The multiversal adventure was slated to hit theaters this November 4th, but it looks like the theatrical release won’t be so speedy after all. Fans can now expect Barry Allen’s story to come out on June 23rd, 2023.

This film will likely have the most influence over events in the DCEU. The movie will feature the return of Michael Keaton’s late-80s Batman. The film will also introduce Sasha Calle’s Supergirl into the film universe.

This DC film delay will certainly also affect the release of the upcoming Batgirl movie on HBO Max. While we’ve had no official word of the streaming-exclusive film’s release date, it’s been speculated that we could expect Leslie Grace’s Barbara Gordon story to begin streaming sometime this December.

However, her story is set to include Michael Keaton’s Batman, who will no doubt be introduced by some multiversal shenanigans that occur in The Flash movie. There’s no official word yet on when we’ll see this Babs-centric tale from the comfort of our own homes. But it’s looking like we may have a longer wait than initially expected.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom

And lastly, the Aquaman sequel is also experiencing some COVID-related delays. The film, which was originally set to premiere this holiday season on December 16th, will now be appearing on March 17th, 2023. Well. At least it’s better swimming weather in the spring.

Is he crying over the film delay? How could you even tell? I’m gonna assume yes. Courtesy of Warner Bros.
