House of the Dragon, a prequel to HBO’s Game of Thrones series is set to release on HBO and HBO Max this August.

This new series is set about 200 years prior to the events of Game of Thrones. The story will follow the Targaryen family throughout the height of their power as the rulers of Westeros. The series is set to premiere on August 21 on HBO and HBO Max.

Like the series before it, House of the Dragon will also follow a book series by George R.R. Martin, titled Fire and Blood. Today, we have new poster and some first looks at the cast. But, the book itself is written more in the style of a history book, like Tolkien’s Silmarillion. However, even though the Targaryens are such a prominent family within the Westeros, we don’t see much of them (outside Daenerys obviously).

The poster shows a dragon egg with cracks forming along one side with dragon’s eyes subtly in the background. So, fans of Game of Thrones will make the obvious connection between this scaled dragon’s egg and the Targaryen family.

In addition to the poster, we have some new cast pictures. The show will star Paddy Considine as King Viserys Targaryen, Olivia Cooke as Aliicent Hightower, Emma D’Arcy as Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen, Matt Smith as Prince Daemon Targaryen, Steve Toussaint as Lord Corlys Velaryon, and many others.

The series is set to have 10 episodes and release on August 21st. However, with the rocky reception to the ending of Game of Thrones, this could reignite interest in the series as a whole.
